Depending what your going to use it for. About the handiest thing I have are my Wicked Lights, by far the most versatile light, and you can see about as far with them as you can a spotlight. but if you want a true spotlight, Lightforce are the way to go. If money is not an object, I'd get a coyote light.

I'm basically looking for a good light to use to spot coyotes etc at night with that is bright enough for the shooter to see the animal through the scope. Not a scope mounted light but one like you just suggested.

the wicked lights are nice because they can be mounted to a scope easily, but if you don't, you can still hold it and shoot if you are adequately rested. I like mine a lot, has pretty much relegated my very good lightforce spotlight to the back seat.

If I could only have one light I'd get the wicked 403IC with all colors. But I also like the scan headlight a lot. Just can't shoot when wearing.

Sniper Hogs are nice too, I have 3 of the 66LR's, but the wickeds are just a little better, and I hunt them side by side. Having said that, my wicked is a newer model, and the Sniper Hogs are 2 years old.

Coyote light is top of the line, but you pay for it.

Is the 403ic just for scope mount or can you use it hand held as well?

I'm kinda partial to Sniper Hog Lights. Although the Cylops Revo 1100 I have is pretty handy and bright! You can recharge it inside the truck going from stand to stand, hold a pretty good charge, and can be found at most Academy for around 100$.
