Soil bank program, but parts of it are still around. But I'm not old enough to delt with it main stream but do have some soil conversation leases and CRP
Also currently watching CRP slowly fade away.

got curious about the program, the dust bowl was a major factor, along with falling grain prices, in creating the program, which was initiated in 1935. my folks lived through the dust bowl. Dad said it would get so dark during the day the chickens would go to roost the farm house was not much better than a shack, mom would clean as much as a 1/4" of dust off every thing each morning. I can't imagine how they endured those years, my granddad moved to western Ks, in covered wagon, broke sod for a $1 a day till he had enough to buy his first farm.

My ranch is in the heart of the Oklahoma panhandle, grandfather helped develop the soil conservation program as we know it.
Farming has evolved but the principle of soil management have to continue or we will return to the dust bowl
