Had a heard that beds in the same spot, went in yesterday and shot the boar out of the group. I was wondering if they will return to this spot in time, or is it blown for good?

You can give it a shot, but I'd bet a box of shells that they have hightailed it. They are very smart.

I assume you've disposed of the boar's carcass, and if so, give it a week or so and then check for hog sign again. You can also "sweeten the deal" by spreading some corn in the immediate area every day. The rest of the sounder will forget about their dead buddy pretty quickly and return to the old bedding grounds. Near as I can tell, they pick their bedding areas based on the availability of shade, water and food.

I know where at least two bedding areas are on my place. I call dominant board out of them multiple times every year.

Had a heard that beds in the same spot, went in yesterday and shot the boar out of the group. I was wondering if they will return to this spot in time, or is it blown for good? Yes, hogs often use a 'good' bedding area for extended periods of time. If you've ever happened upon one...it will be readily apparent by the amount of scat you will find there and the physical appearance of place. Of course...the reason they use such an area is because THEY FEEL SAFE there and the spot offers many of the things they need/desire (shade, sun, wind direction, seclusion, water, whatever). IF you purposely choose to enter such a spot AND bust them out by shooting or otherwise causing a 'hard' disturbance. Don't count on seeing them there again for awhile. Now...that doesn't mean they will NEVER come back. They picked that bedding site for good reason and it will remain attractive (to either that group or another). I have found that a lot depends on WHAT disturbs the hogs and HOW it was done. IF you simply walked too close to a bedding area and were 'winded', that is something they can deal with, it represents no severe threat. You 'bumped' them out of a spot temporarily. Conversely, IF you go right into the middle of them 'shooting', then walk all through the place, expect a different result. Likewise if dogs are used....hogs WILL leave for a long time.

This will be my last hunt for them till the fall. It is a prime spot that they have used for sometime, I just avoided it till now. I wasn't sure if that sounder would be gone for good, there were lots of animals in the 200 pound range in it. I appreciate the input.
