Curious to know members opinions / experience on best shooting systems, gear, etc for 1000 (plus) yard shooting.

You're going to have to narrow that question.

It was intentionally broad. From what I have read on other treads here there are several people who have experience and interest in this topic and I would be interested to see more discussion about it. As a starter though.... I would like hear any thoughts about camera systems or other ways to confirm impacts at ranges beyond 1000 yds. When shooting 10" - 24" metal targets without a spotter this can prove difficult especially as you shoot farther out or experience adverse environmentals.

I built a range at the ranch out to 1k. I drive back and forth on to see my target at extended ranges. Right now I moved 5hrs away, but When I lived 20min from the ranch I had this idea. You can find 1000m wifi closed circuit cameras on eBay for $125-$150. In doing my research this is pretty much same concept. They are DC powered but I think that would be an easy splice job to run solar power. Might be worth a try. Now that I don't shoot 4+ times a week and moved out of the area I haven't spent the money or invested the time to try my idea out. I imagine these aren't built as tough as the ones available for this sort of thing, but might be worth the gamble to you. If you do go this route post results please.

If you're set up with steel targets, spotting and hearing your own hits shouldn't be a problem as long as the targets are set up in a way that they can swing somewhat freely. At those distances (and much closer), you can recover from recoil and spot your hit through your scope, then wait for the ring of the steel a second or two later (at the longer distances). Painting the steel white really helps your hits stand out as well. The bigger and more important issue, is spotting your misses. Where you set your targets will determine how hard or easy this is. If you can set up your target in a bare area of sand or dirt this will be much easier. Set up in any kind of vegetation, and good luck.

you need the best camera system available
driving down to the target does absolutely NO GOOD
you need instant reaction to tell what wind and Mirage are doing...

Thanks for the input. Most of the time I can hear / see hits on steel, but when mirage is bad or wind strong this can be difficult. Seeing the misses is equally important to make corrections. Thanks again, please feel free to include any recommendations or thoughts, I am a novice trying to improve and send my money wisely.

Your shooting technique if correct will verify the hit by witnessing it in your scope. If your slapping the trigger you are bailing out of the sight picture after the trigger breaks and fires.
As mentioned above, the proper steel target will swing when hit. It's also critical to have clean dirt mounds behind the steel to adjust for your POI. Contact jodirt on this forum for the proper targets at a good price.
You want to set up your range for a cross wind, not up or down wind.

Look in Rifles, Shotguns and Handguns, above. FiremanJG and ChadTGR42 frequently get engaged in long range shooting threads.
