Been wanting to build a long range hunting rifle for elk/mulies etc. Was planning on the 7mm/300wm wildcat until the 28 nosler got traction and looks like it will stay around. I hand load 7mm and 300wm now so I can get the 7/300 loaded with the dies I have, or get custom dies made. I have quite a bit of 300wm brass already.

7-300 for economic sake, especially since you already have the brass. Much less expensive brass, and it'll be a hoss! 28 Nosler has put down some great numbers, but look at brass price.

I looked at those options and I think the 7/300wm wouldn't have been fast enough for the work involved.
I went 7/338lm and can safely get 3100-3150 using 195s.
Will try the 7/300nm next probably as I'd like to be at 3200fps at least.

It will be 1:8 twist. I like my 300win but the barrel is too skinny to thread for a suppressor, if I'm going to rebarrel might as well have some fun. Reason for the wildcat is the bc on the .284 gives the edge over the same weight .308 bullets, my friends and I shoot for fun but it's competitive and an edge is an edge. I bought a 338lm because I wanted an edge in our friendly competitions but I just couldn't enjoy putting much more than 10-15 rds through it with the recoil (braked) and cost. I've been shooting a 300rum for the longer shots but no way I'm carying that rifle it is just too heavy. Need a long range rifle I can carry and shoot. I have been thinking about rebarreling this 300win and just buying a ruger American factory threaded 300win so I still have the caliber.

With all the new heavy 7MM bullets available it's giving the .284 caliber in larger capacity cases a new perspective for sure. Just saw the new Sierra 197gr bullets are out which will give the reloader choices in the Heavy high BC dept.
