It's a hobby, a sport, a pastime - but I was talking with a friend today and it occurred to me , I think we are putting some major wear and tear on the trucks chasing pigs.
We hunt 2 hours west so 155 miles x 24 = 3720 miles
It's not all highway miles either and I recall losing a water pump at 1 am in Strawn one weekend so that was an extra fun week of back and forth and installing a new one in the Pack n Sack parking lot.
Good times...

Do I win? Dang Man that is putting in some windshield time, are you successful each time you make those trips? There are times when I don't see as much as a coon so I couldn't imagine interstate travel to be skunked, then again if this is one of those trips where you're hunting with friends and family then hunting is just the cherry atop the cake.

I went to Texas in 2015 for javelina and never saw anything other than some tracks... hog wise, so far so good but when I travel I hunt with guides. Hog hunting with ten ten and javelina hunting with mulie_mike so hopefully wont be skunked . As you said, I'll be bringing my 10year old nephew who dosnt have a father figure so it's not time wasted

I travel from Wisconsin at least twice a year to hunt hogs in Texas. It's a addiction that is getting out of control! I don't think I could hold a job if I lived there. Lol

I hunt at least 60 times a year. The closest place I head to is 34 miles one-way. Another place is 48 and still another place is 61 miles away. Not to mention we normally drive most of the night hunting. Lucky for me the guys I hunt with normally do most of the driving once I meet up with them at the hunting areas. They live much closer than I do. Still I put in more than 6,000 miles a year just pig hunting.
Good thing I have a gas saving work car so I don't put miles on my truck going back and forth to work.

RC - My wife would have a cow if I hunted 60 times a year , I'd claim that cow on my taxes Turkey - I feel the same way about casinos I hope Texas never brings them here cause I'd be starting another thread about driving to gamble, better odds at the casino sometimes....

I am out twice a week, usually going about 250-275 miles for the week, so about 26,000 or so for the 2 years.

I average once a week throughout the year. Most of those are here on my place so I put about a mile on the Honda Rancher 4x4 each time. Other times, I hunt on nephews or neighbors land and the furtherest I have to go is about 4 miles each way.
So, about 60 miles on ATV and another 75-100 on Toyota.

You guys that hunt close to home have got a little slice of heaven - I'm jealous ! In addition to the water pump fiasco last year I've managed to tear my truck up (running board ripped off by a tree stump concealed in 2 foot brush) dents from fence posts that seem to move while driving without headlight (sneaking onto the field). About 5 cans of fix a flat to get me back home to have Discount Tire plug mesquite holes. ... And I take care to avoid all hazards, it just happens ya know

I have been going more lately. But generally, 90 miles each way twice a week for a total of 360 miles/week. Enjoy the drive.
I'm about to get another ranch on the river that hasn't been hunted for awhile. Tons of hogs...and they have devastated the pastures.

I haven't been out as much as I'd like in the past year, but I hunt a spot that's just under 75 miles from my house, so a 150 mile round trip. Then add in something for driving around the property and heading into town once or twice because we don't feel like cooking. I like to get out hunting at least a dozen or 15 times a year, some years it's been more. I probably average between 2,000 - 2,500 miles/year.
Total (typically) between 4-5K miles for a two-year period.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

Great topic.
I hunt a handful of places all within 40-50 minutes of my house. I usually hunt a couple times a week, sometimes more. Those drives home at 3-4am suck when you don't see something. Especially when the alarm goes off at 7:00am. Have to start paying attn to miles. What makes it worse on miles is leaving one spot to check another, making your drive even further.
Know how it goes tearing stuff up. I backed into a tree the other night, hard enough to hit my head on the headrest. Thought the tree was going to fall over.
But getting a pig at 2am and driving home, I am wide awake, can barely sleep, and seem to be fine the next day at work. Go figure.

Not many. I have more invites within just a few miles than I can possibly get to. We are getting more and more covered up in hogs as the years go by down here on the coast.
