When it comes to wild quail I have learned I have to pay to play...unfortunately what I don't currently have is access to land with wild quail...we'd love to show up at your hunting locations, just let me know where the gate is, open it up, and we'll handle the rest...

You are looking for a day lease. They are difficult to find. The best I ever had was west of Encino. The man's name was Guyo Lopez. He boarded dogs and did a little guiding. He had a couple of camp trailers on a lot one 281. We paid cash. He shared the cash with the ranch foreman. He asked us to park away from the road.

He came around after the hunt one day and my friend started bragging on my HOA pointer. Her name was Cookie. She's on the left on my signature pictures. Guyo drove out to watch her. We put her down alone and she pointed 6 coveys in 20 minutes.

Guyo ran a bulldozer. Last I heard he was in jail for running dope.

I am actually interested in both day lease and guided hunts...I have less than one month left and need to get my young setter on more wild birds as well as get myself into more to hold me over until next year!

You can still run it after season. My neighbor has a section leased for cattle just to the west of that water tank off Katy-Fulshear road. There are several coveys on there. They are all on the fence row and fly the other way so they are difficult to shoot. He'd probably let you run your pup over there. Stop by sometime and visit.

Well actually when I questioned my GW he said you could only work dogs on Quail out of season on a Licensed Private Bird Hunting Area with banded birds with the chance of a dog getting a quail. Just reporting what I was told. He also said anyone with Bob White Quail in captivity needed a Game Bird Breeders License including Johnny House owners if the kept birds in the JH all year.
