I am looking at hunting some land about 3miles north of Negley just noth of Clarksville . I have been hunting southwest Texas but lost my lease. Does any body have any info on how the hunting is in that area.

I hunt about 15 miles north north east of Clarksville as the crow flies. Will depend if your area has been timbered recently or if it is old growth. Depending on the time of the year you may be over run with pigs or you may not see any. Two years ago when we first go on the lease I saw very few deer. It was so thick I literally could not see anything. They logged it last year, not clear cut, but logged it. saw a whole bunch more deer and even got a pretty good buck.

About 150 acres, 4 spots 1500 each. I took it for a family lease so I am the only one there pretty much of the time by myself. It was so thick before it was logged you could have put 10 bow hunters on it easily at one time and never ran into each other. No water but has electricity.

I don't know if there are poachers or it was the loggers but my gate camera keeps disappearing.
Ranch Dawg I don't know if you hunt east Texas, but if you don't know exactly where you are going you will never find it even if you know what road it is on.

Be aware of poachers and theft problems. $6,000 for 150 acres (4 x $1,500)in that area would not be appealing to me. But as that person posted he uses it for family lease so convenience factored in could make difference. Good luck

Cameras dissapearing and that price for acreage... Geez. Good luck in that money hole. As many leases I have been on in the past none of them "turned a buck". LOL, they are all money pits. I am pretty sure that it had been the loggers that were taking the gate cameras. They will be in court pretty soon for theft for timber that was not reported to the land owner. We have not had one issue with someone messing with four wheeler's, trailers, tractor or camp trailers. I know the acreage is small but as thick as it is, it is plenty big for me and my kids. Land owners are good people too.

I am looking for a place that me and my 4-boys can hunt as a family group so we can get my grand baby out and camping. I have been trying to find the phone numbers to the paper mill company’s. To look that way. Really don’t want to do the type 2. Any help would be appreciated

Grew up hunting around Avery. Some big deer out that way for sure, has been about 15 years since I have hunted that area. Population was pretty low and deer are very nocturnal. Miss that hardwood country for sure. When you shot a good buck, you earned it

Get prepared for the poachers and trespassers ! Yep, buddy of mine has a place just west of Dimple. It is a nice place but county road splits it. 2 years ago the meth heads hit his storage shed and tried to steal mule and an ATV. They did not get them but damaged the ignition switches. He normally gets a couple of bucks every year between him and friends. He does not believe in shooting does.

Looks like I may be out in that area next year. Lease is off 2235 just east of Negley. I’m just down the road from Clarksville. Let me know when you’re out there. Around that area could be great or it could be crap. Just too many factors. I would highly recommend checking the place out and putting some cameras on it before a decision is made.

I grew up in Avery. Wasn’t a lot of good deer back then except in the red and sulphur river bottoms. It was a great place to grow up. Still own land up there but haven’t been back except to visit family. Haven’t hunted up there in about 40 years or so.
