I'll try not to cross any forum lines of self-promotion here, but I'm the importer for Hardy Rifle Engineering carbon wrapped barrels. I have one on my Tikka T3. It's a 24" heavy palma contour (0.934" most of the way down), with a brake on it. It is 12oz lighter than the factory 22" T3 Lite contour, which is about the lightest contour on the market.

I'm building a second Tikka on a stainless action. It'll be just barely over 6lbs all done with the heavy contour carbon barrel.

Carbon barrels are expensive, but an all-steel barrel can't even come close in weight savings in my experience. Plenty of pencil-thin barrels can shoot, but shot-to-shot repeatability won't be there. Obviously an ultralight gun isn't generally built for range blastin', but the carbon barrel actually ends up providing both.

Trackman, I'd be pretty fascinated to see some photos of where it wore.

According to Hardy's website, the #12 Heavy Palma barrel, finished at 24", is going to weigh nearly 5lbs (4.976 according to my math).

That's the all-steel weight. I just took my barreled action out of the stock and weighed it. 24" carbon heavy-palma(ish) contour with the Hardy Ti brake on a T3 action weighed in at 4.4lbs.

What happens when a guy wants the muzzle threaded? Order a certain length barrel with a steel shank on each end?

Yes. You have to order the exact length you want. It'll have a shank on both ends.

You order the finished length that you want. They all ship with enough steel at the muzzle to thread as needed.

Look at the hardy engineering barrels that dallas rifle is importing from new zealand. They look a lot cooler than the ugly proof barrels and all the gunsmiths I have talked to rave about the accuracy they are seeing from the. Guys like kampfeld, chad dixon etc. Those guys don't BS. I think alamo precision is going to carry them but don't quote me on that. I have 2 coming in the next couple of weeks and will update when I get them spun on. They run about .920 at the muzzle and depending on caliber come in right at 2.5lbs.

Hardy buries the carbon barrel spec sheet on their website. I can't find it. Here's a link to our site, and it has the contour info attached. What's listed on the diagram is what Hardy has found works best between rigidity, heat transfer, and weight, but they can do other contours if you really have a hankerin' for one.

If you got the coin, do it.
This thing is 10 lbs flat with all that crap hanging off of it.
Alot of different opinions out there, but for me a little extra barrel diameter makes me feel more confident and losing the weight to hump mountains is a huge upside.

Buzz, jason has done a few of the hardy barrels, they had about 5 of them laying on the table last time i was in there. He seemed indifferent about proof vs hardy but i would still ask

It's a plastic glove, one finger is over the barrel.

Haha, awesome! Can't wait to see it. We're getting them here as fast as we can! Holidays + Shot falling in the same time frame have things in NZ running a hair behind.
