I have a Stainless Rem 700 in 300 Win Mag. Currently has a 22" barrel that is threaded with muzzle brake.
Want to make it a shooter out to 1000 yards.
Would be for target and hunting.

Looking for suggestions on barrel make, length, twist rates, etc..
Where to buy?

Any recommendations on a local shop in the DFW area for install and headspacing?

How well does it shoot with the factory barrel? If it's already an accurate rifle, I wouldn't change anything. 1000 yards is a chip shot for a 300WM.

You're going to lose a little velocity with a 22" barrel, but still be well into supersonic speeds at 1000 yards.

My semi-custom 300wm has a 27" Lilja 3 groove 1:10 twist barrel, with a pretty heavy contour (I believe its the NBRSA HV taper). I always shoot with my over barrel suppressor and it shoots the 208 amax at 2986fps. Any of the top barrel makers will make a great barrel, I bought straight from Lilja and am very happy with the barrel.

Agree. I would at least give it an honest try out to 1000yds. Everyone has heard of a miracle barrel, give it a try.

Right. 1k ain't no thang for a .300 Win Mag, even with a 22" barrel.

Personally, if it is labeled a "magnum" mine will have a 26" long barrel, at least. But the 22" will certainly get it done. Spend you money on developing a good load before a new barrel and money to the gunsmith.

If you really have to have a new barrel, I'd buy a 1:10" twist, and finish it at 26". Heaviness of contour is user preference. If you want one you can carry a long ways, and only need to make 1-3 shots, go light. If you want to be able to shoot it for ten rounds, get a heavier contour. www.bugholes.com is the first place I look for barrels.

Bartlein minimum 26 inch and minimum sendero contour. As far as twist rate goes I like the 210's for long range work and that means a 10 twist. Can you do 1k with a shorted lighter barrel? Yes, buy why not get the right equipment to do the job.

You really think it's worth all the hassle to get an extra 150 fps? What's the right equipment? Plenty of guys are hitting long range steel with calibers that aren't as capable as a 300WM. Are they using the wrong equipment too?

Thanks for the info.
I have not shot this yet. Still looking at scopes. Leaning towards the Vortex Viper PST or HST line in 6x24.

Give it a try and see what happens before you spend $800 on a new Bartlein and installation. I shot my best 1000-yard group with a 6.5 Grendel running 130 Hybrids at 2530 fps. Your rifle already has superior ballistics to that. cheers
