ODESSA, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) - A 54-year-old man is facing state-jail-felony charges after Odessa Police officials say he admitted to poisoning two dogs back in December.

On Dec. 20, police were called to Casa Loma Drive about about an animal cruelty report.

The complain tent told police that someone had given their Great Pyrenees a mixture of raw meat, dog food, raisins and an unidentified white substance, according to the release.

On Dec. 26, police were called again to the same home on Casa Loma Drive about a Great Pyreneese-German Sheppard mix and a Chihuahua-Yorki mix that had been poisoned, according to the release.

The Pyrenees later died on Dec. 29 and a toxicology report indicated the dog had insecticides, rodent poison, NSAID toxicity, grape toxicity, antifreeze toxicity and GI inflammation, police say.

The Great Pyreneese-German Sheppard mix also died.

Thanks to surveillance footage, police were able to identify the suspect as Robert Kevin Lynch.

Police conducted a search warrant on Lynch's home on Jan. 9 and seized antifreeze, Critter Ridder, Gopher Bait50 and Advil, according to police.

When officers spoke to Lynch, he reportedly admitted to poisoning the dogs.

He was then arrested and charged with three counts of animal cruelty.

1. One who writes for a living should learn how to spell Shepherd.

2. If those would have been my dogs, it would have read "Thanks to surveillance footage, police were able to identify the deceased as Robert Kevin Lynch after the ashes were recovered from his smoldering home."

I lived in a neighborhood located outside city limits years ago.
A lady there kept 5 or 6 beagles in her backyard that barked and bayed nearly non-stop. She lived on another block but I knew her neighbors fairly well.
One family, that backed up to her property, moved after repeatedly asking her to control the noise - it kept them up nearly every night. These are working people with school aged children at home.
Other neighbors pleaded for years to get her to either control the noise at night or move the dogs indoors.
She absolutely refused to do anything - no training, no collars, no bringing them in.

One night someone poisoned the dogs. Two or three of them died. The other two survived.
She posted signs around the neighborhood that a dog killer lived among us.

She then went and acquired two or three new beagles and put them in the backyard.

Weigh in on that one.

Fort Worth area rescue groups and officials said Thursday they are devastated after learning dogs pulled from the city animal shelter were shot to death last month at the home of an Arkansas couple who said they were rescuing the animals.

Eight dogs with identification chip numbers from Chuck Silcox Animal Care & Control were found dead in Horatio, Ark., after residents complained of multiple dogs loose in the neighborhood.

“They were found all over the property,” Sevier County Sheriff’s deputy Brian Hankins said in a Thursday telephone interview. “Some were grouped together.”

All of my neighbors mutts were mysteriously poisoned a day after they ran a calf horse into a corner post and broke his shoulder.

heard the story on dogs on radio yesterday then the names came out on news this morning. Barking dogs have frustrated me but like was said it's a people problem dogs do bark. Odessa has had feral cat problem for awhile, animal control has no control! There is too many of them, I have a live trap when they become problem around my house. Also have a big owl hanging around...kittens don't become cats with that guy flying patrol!

Not all will agree with this philosophy, but I have lived all my life in the country. If you have a problem with stray dogs or cats that belong to a neighbor or ones that have been dumped, it will not do any good to call animal control, if the county even has one. I had a neighbor whose dog would get very aggressive with one of our grandsons as he waited on the school bus. i tried talking to the guy about the dog, but he just did not believe his dog would do such a thing, we resorted to taking the grandson to meet the bus in a vehicle to avoid any more problems.Thankfully, the dog came up missing a few weeks later, the neighbor still thinks I had something to do with it.I think My late dad had the right idea, he said, if the dog or cat becomes that bad a problem , just shoot'um a throw them in a ditch.I have tried both ways ,and think pa was right.

Got problems right now with either neighbors or somebody dumps tom cats, and they come around pizzing on stuff on the porches. Nothing like bringing in a sack of wood pellets for the stove with cat pizz on it.

I have a live traps out for a couple of cats as I write this post, when I catch them, I will send them to that big Kitty land in the sky. I can thin tomcats and pussycats as fast as they bring them in and let them roam on other peoples property.

When you live way out you just TCB.

No poison, just a 22 short.

There's lots of irresponsible dog and cat owners in this world these days.

And there's usually two sides to every story.
The media is not good at providing both.
