Been trying half heartedly for a few years to trap coyotes at our property in south texas. We only get the opportunity to run them for a night at a time, sometimes 2 nights in a row, and we have been learning it as we go, reading etc. This weekend it was in the mid 20's at night and we had two fresh gut piles told my brother I thought we should set some traps so we carried the guts down to our normal bone yard and made two sets and put the guts in the middle. Next morning we were rewarded with our first catch. Not our intended target, but sometimes you gotta take what you can get! Would have loved to see a coyote instead though.

That was a good set to catch him that deep up the arm.

Gotta Give most of the credit to Erich, poster above. We are brothers, he has done more of the research on it. We dug out the sets packed around jaws and placed a piece of plastic bag over the trip plate and covered with light layer of dirt.
We actually set two traps on the gut pile, he got one on each front leg.
