We often debate which bolt gun shoots the best out of box. (Weatherby Vanguard peep)

CDNN Sports and Brownells have been flooding my email with holiday specials so I figured I'd ask.

What is the best factory AR-platform rifle on the market today?

I'd expect any $2k AR to shoot better than any $750.00 AR.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Rock River, for the money. I don't claim to be a great shot. I suspect the 'flier' in each of these groups is the first shot and caused by FRP from the suppressor (Silencerco Omega).

18" .223 Wylde ATH Upper 5 shot 100 yd group, Hornady Varmint Express 55gr, bags front/rear:

16" 6.8 SPC Coyote Upper, 5 shot 100 yd group, Fed Fusion 115gr, bag front/rear:

We own 2 DPMS factory 16" bull barreled guns that shoot 5 touching with my reloads. I can't imagine anything "better" for a $450 upper assembly.

IMO, there are three rifles to buy.

1. DPMS-- $500-700
2. RRA-- $750-1000
3. JP-- $ 2500

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Windham Weaponry ar15 is impressive to me. Great story behind them, too.

I am biased. Since I have 7 of them I'd have to go with Colt. I recognize and acknowledge that there are better AR's out there off the shelf, but not for the same money (my opinion only). Also with me there invariably comes a time where I want to sell/trade and you get more value when that time comes with a Colt than just about anything.

I dont own any out-of-box ARs anymore but when I did I would say the S&W MP Sport was pretty good for the $. My ARs now are self-assembled - $400 frankenturd and a $2500 Noveske. They both function and shoot about the same but I get more chicks with the Noveske.

I'm not sure this can be answered without some more parameters.... like how much money do you want to spend?

I like the Sig M400 my wife bought me for Valentine's Day. I ended up switching out some parts on it but it's pretty accurate. Never heard anybody complain about the S&W M&P15 and my friends who have them seem to like them. The rest of mine I built in my shop. There are a bunch of good AR's out there but you should just build your own these days. You can get parts for dirt cheap money and the tools are not expensive and good to have on hand. You can buy a cheap torque wrench from Harbor Freight for $20.00 and even rent headspace gauges from Reamer Rentals for $25.00 but you should just buy a set to have on hand. Brownells even has a video series under their How To section on how to build an AR15. Red X Arms has some good prices and you can pick up a nice barrel from Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Company. Red X Arms makes all their stuff in house and even sell left handed AR uppers and parts. This way you don't have to swap parts out after you buy a rifle. I like the Diamondhead VRS-T handguards that Stag Arms puts on their rifles. They are pretty comfortable to grip and nice and slim which is nice when shooting from the window in my blind. The Mako Group/Fab Defense GL buttstocks are pretty good too. I have the GL-Mag and two of the GL-Shock's with the cheek risers. But as soon as you build one, you will end up getting the addiction and start building more of them lol. If you live near me in West Houston then you could always stop by and I could throw a part on for you like a different handguard if you end up buying a complete rifle. Also Primary Arms always has good handguards on their clearance shelves for cheap money that someone bought and returned because they ordered the wrong part or it was too long for their rifle. These are non blem parts that were never used. I picked up a Troy Alpha rail for 1/2 price just to have on hand. You would have to call and ask what they have in their clearance section because they normally don't post the stuff on their website. Hope this helps you out in some way.

As the resident math nerd, I want to point out that zero is not more than zero. Haha! Getting chicks with a Noveske.
