What does everyone think about the 17 wsm and which gun have you shot?

We put it in a lead sled at 50 yards and it will not shoot better than a 2.75" spread and out of 10 shots every time there is at least 1 flyer that is 3.5-6" from center. It may just be the production of some of the rifles. I know I have had to replace 3 or 4 things on it since I purchased it due to recalls. If you were to go out and buy one I would recommend the stainless version.

I've got the Stainless B barrel and it cuts one ragged hole at that distance. Probably been over 300 critters lost their lives to that little rifle. Jack Rabbits and Turtles have been it's main diet but it has eaten a few yotes and crows.

You put a 17 WSM in a lead sled? Did you have it ported and one of the fancy recoil pads installed also?

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Had a bmag not long after it came out. Shot great. Easily under 1" groups with ease. Only reason I sold it was I got bored with how accurate it was.

I have been wanting to buy a B.Mag lately, and I have read about a lot of problems. One of the major issues is the synthetic stock versions of the B.Mag are extremely flimsy and often cause poor accuracy. I've seen where folks have replaced their poor shooting rifle stocks with a glass bedded Boyds stock and it would shoot lights out afterwards. I've also noticed that a lot of B.Mag stocks are poorly fitted. Ive seen several examples at gun stores where the barrel doesn't fit down the center of the stock and touches on one side. Another issue folks seem to have is that the magazine can be very tough to seat correctly. I looked at one at Dicks and every time I closed the bolt, the magazine fell out. These issues have kept me from buying one, but I think I still might try to get the Bull barrel laminate stock version. I will just pillar bed the stock and hope for the best.

My Ruger 17 wsm is great! It is a fun gun to shoot. We shot prairie dogs at 250 to 300 yards with it.

I would love to see someone record an original wsm bmag that shot a 1" group.

Well it's kind of windy today but I'll give it shot, mines stone stock.

This was with the 25 grain loads and about a 10 mph wind from left to right. Top of the line was the 50 yard aiming point and center bull was the 100 yard aiming point. Wind drifts them little 17 caliber bullets.

50 yards = .225 CC
100 yards = .600 CC

You are really making me want to pull the trigger on one of those Bmags.

Sure wish this rifle and round had been around back in the 70's when I was a serious hide hunter.

They are bad [censored]. There were some issues with the early production B-Mags and inconsistent ammo charges but improvements have been made to both. The 17 WSM is a nasty little round.

Yup, it's a great little gun. Get the heavy barrel on, that's the newer model. The older on with the ridges on the barrel had some problems.

One thing, the bolt is pretty tight. It cranks the spring with you open the bolt. No big deal, just takes 10-20 rounds to get used to.

Yep, new design and action was designed to handle the higher pressure. It's hell on smaller pigs, yotes, and cats and just fun to shoot.

Will add....will also drop bigger pigs with brain shots. Drops them deader than hell but stay away from neck shots on big pigs unless you are really close. Neck shots on smaller pigs up to 150 yrds is no problem but don't take a neck shot on a big pig. Shoot brain on a big one with this gun if you want to recover.

They sure are! I'd like to see them make a whole series of calibers for this case. 17, 20, 22 and a 25 caliber straight case for pistols (Might get the magic 2000 fps with a 55 grain from a six or seven and a half inch barrel), been wanting something like that for a long time.

I have an early one . Biggest pos I ever bought . Accuracy at just 50 yards is over 2 inches , 3x that at 100 . Stock so flimsy it can't bed . Mag wont feed and falls out . Bolt jams . Barrel in receiver off center . I am a BR-50 shooter with many very accurate rimfires , so it is not me .
