I hunt in east Texas and of course the rut has long since come and gone. Corn is still hitting the ground at the feeders and most of the acorns if not all are gone. I have pictures of young bucks and does at the feeders but no mature bucks at all. Would it do any good to put out piles of soybean/corn mixed near thickets and bedding areas to try to lure out the mature bucks, or is there a better idea that I may be missing? My brother has been hunting an area that is mixed pine , hardwood, that has no feeder, and has been seeing a lot of does, and he says they are feeding on young yaupon bushes. He said they will stay there for 45 minutes to an hour eating on the bushes and then move on, but he has yet to see a big buck. I suggested that he hang a camera or two just to see if maybe the big boys are hitting it at night. I am at a loss for an answer, and from what I have read on here, it's the same situation in most areas of the state!

Man the mature deer act the way they are gonna act regardless of where you are. You have to be at the right place at the right time this time of year. Hunt the cold fronts, the deer have to move and come get energy whether protein or corn.

May the force be with you amigo. Happy Holidays !

Yea mature bucks kinda crawl into a hole this time of year, but be lucky enough to have a late doe come in and you may have 4 or 5 running around you. All you can do is hunt.
