I watched a TV show about two adult sons that live with their dad and the three of them work the family cattle ranch together.

In the real world,
how do these arrangements handle paying the sons? Do they receive a salary? A percentage of the profits from sales?

One that I was doing their accounting handled it a lot different, Daddy leased the land to the sons. The 2 sons handled their joint farm and ranch business as a partnership, and their own separate operation as sole proprietorship. The daddy was retired on SS but he helped out when and if he felt like it, and was donated labor.

Another formed a partnership, daddy, one son and a son-in-law. The partnership rented and leased the land from the dad. They basically all worked it together as 3 partners, all shared equally in losses and profits, expenses etc.. But daddy spent a lot of time playing dominos with the daddy in the above example.

You start a Cattle Co, issue shares, and distribute proceeds accordingly.

In our family the old man owned it all, and the kids were merely hired hands. When the old man was gone, a partnership was formed. The odd one out was the sister, and she drew a small percent of the profit since she contributed nothing.

Currently reading this man's book. He talks about this very thing. Seems to me this man knows his stuff. Book is somewhat hard to come by. He is also interviewed in a handful of videos on the net.
