Hello everyone!
Thought I would join the forum since I come to Texas often and got my hunter education. I currently reside in Alberta and it's my first year hunting but I can't complain it has been bad. My waterfowl count is 286 birds, that includes grouse, geese and ducks. If anyone could tell me how I could start hunting hogs in Texas when I come down into the Katy area, that would be greatly appreciated. Also do the snow geese come to Texas?

Alberta and Texas. You have two fantastic hunting areas.

Welcome.

The snows are annoying haha. I literally have 600 decoys and they do not even finish. Canada's are a different story. The specks are fairly easy as well.

This season was bad for hunting. I saw one cow moose with a youngin. Lots of poachers and the weather being in the high 70s for most of the season made them sit deep in the bush. A few guys had some luck. I got one beauty of a doe and got buck fever on a 6 point... Missed 4 times haha. I wouldn't mind taking someone on a white tail hunt, depends if they want mountain or farm though.

Welcome! I was in BC near Ft. Saint John last May. Going back in 2018 for another blackbear hunt and moose. We saw tons up there.

I'm not much for any bird hunting, but hogs are generally all over the state. Mostly all private land so you will need landowner permission to hunt here.

Is Texas like Alberta that you can go any hunt anywhere there is crown land? I think it's federal land in the USA. I know that we can hunt here for problematic animals even when there is no season. So we an even hunt deer, bear, cougar, wolf, boar, elk and moose if they are wrecking farm land. Most farmers just call hunters and get the job done. To hunt on public land in Texas I think I read somewhere you need special permits? I have guns at my cousins house in Fulshear, lots of hogs there but all walk through the neighbourhood in Weston Lakes...

First off welcometo texas Hope you enjoy the great state. I think the only crown in the USA was knocked off her head in the last election. That I am glad for. Look into the Texas Parks and Wildlife Annual hunting permit. It will allow you to hunt hogs in a lot of places and most will welcome you to help control numbers. Good luck and happy hunting.

welcome There are lots of hog and geese opportunities in the Katy area. Look under the hog thread on this website also. Many outfitters for hog hunting if you can't find private land or a farmer to allow you to rid the pest. Shoot em all on site!

I wish this stereotype would stop haha. Only natives talk like that, and possibly Newfies... And maybe the odd redneck.... And the odd visiting American haha.

Whoa there cowboy. Not so fast.

Yes we can destroy some pests but it's not as simple as calling a hunter.
Some animals require a permit others require nothing.
And I don't know a single farmer that calls anyone to do their dirty work for them.

There is also a matter of draws for legal big game which restricts one to a single wildlife managment unit. You can't just hunt anywhere.

I know you are new to hunting so maybe it'd be a good idea to ask before you tell others what you think is true.

BTW, why are you asking about hunting in Texas, on Alberta Outdoorsman you claimed you had hunted hogs in Texas did you not?
As I recall you claimed you hunted them down here before you hunted anything bigger then a rabbit in Alberta.

What gives?

Hello folks. As you may have deduced, I've been around a while, but I'm new to this forum.

I am from Alberta, I've lived here all my life. I've never been to Texas but I have been as far south as Arkansas.
And I know a few folks from the state. I used to be a big game guide in my younger days.

Anyway, I've been on the trail of an Alberta crook who calls himself The Whitetailer among many other things.
That lead me to this site.

Be careful folks, this guys a smooth talker and has sucked in a lot of well meaning folks. He knows how to spin a good yarn and he does not back down when exposed, he goes on the attack.

The thing that gives him away is his lies, he can't help making incredible claims that just might be true.

Is he here now? I can't say for sure, one never can with him, until a lot of people have lost a lot of money.

Just be weary of offers to go hunting in Alberta. If it's too good to be true, it's gonna cost you a lot.
