I will be going hunting at a buddy's place between San Saba and Lometa this weekend. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect as far as the deer hunting goes. Never been before.

Depending on the place you should be in great shape. Lots of deer in that area. They won't be huge body-wise but if they have a decent setup you should see a lot. Rut is long over but bucks might still move some looking for the needle in a haystack.

I've hunted just NE of San Saba along the Colorado on what's know as Shaw Bend. Tons of deer in that area but none too big and probably 75% does. Lots of small low-fence ranches in that area. Which side of the river will you be on? San Saba county does not have antler restrictions while Mills and Lampasas counties do.
