The seeds are from Locust tree bean pods and the scat is most likely from a raccoon or opossum in north Texas, Collin/Fannin/Grayson counties or nearby. Just a hunch.
By the way, unrelated, but did you know that an opossum is immune to pit viper(rattler/copperhead/cottonmouth) venom and rarely every contract rabies?

I knew about the rabies but not the venom. Pretty cool.
Thanks.
Makes sense on the seeds as there are alot of locust trees out there.

Wish they would have known that about opossums n 1971. I tried to catch one and got bit(actually torn up) and had to take 2 of the series before they got the negative results back from the state. It sucked.

The seeds are from Locust tree bean pods Those look an awful lot like persimmon seeds and can be found in the scat of just about any of the common mammals such as coon, possum, deer, coyote, ringtail, hog, etc. As far as the scat goes, it is awfully degraded. I don't believe there is anything left there to morphologically identify it. Wish they would have known that about opossums n 1971. I tried to catch one and got bit(actually torn up) and had to take 2 of the series before they got the negative results back from the state. It sucked. Rabies in opossums was understood quite well in 1971 and the doctors followed the correct procedures by verifying first that your opossum was free of rabies before taking you off the shots. Opossums can and do get rabies, not in the same manner as other mammals, and so while not as often, they do get it. They tend to get is primarily by inhalation. One such vector is by aspirating aerosolized urine from infected bats, such as in or near caves.

Was thinking wild persimmon, but typed locust bean pod. I'd say locust bean. I have the same scat all over and locust trees. I don't have any persimmons. So, begs the question does Dman have a persimmon grove or locust trees. (I do hope he has a persimmons, they're awesome).

They are black when ripe and are virtually everywhere in south and central Texas.

Was also going to say persimmon seeds.
Basically everything on the planet eats them.

(I do hope he has a persimmons, they're awesome). The consistent size and shape of the seed/bean is indeed like those found in Honey Locust pods. But, this time of year...there are few pods that are still green. When Raccoons, Possum and other animals eat the pods...they are after the succulent 'pulp' and not the 'bean' itself. Persimmon seeds are 'similar' in shape...but most often have a small 'teat' looking protrusion on one end. If you were to put a Locust Bean next to a Persimmon seed it would be evident the difference. But, persimmons (late ones) are still on the trees and on the ground in some places. So it might be a more plausible candidate in this case. Not knowing what kind of trees/shrubs the OP has on the property, my first instinct is to say Honey Locust, but that would assume there are still green pods available. The excreted seeds are most often found in Raccoon scat....where I am, but scat of that size/amount could be from Coons, Possum, Ringtail Cat, Fox, Coyote, Hogs. Who knows? If pressed for an answer, I'd say Raccoon and Honey Locust.

I'm in north central Texas. I will look for persimmon trees when I go out next and see what I can find.

Both DMan and I will be scouring our places for Persimmons. I hope to find some, though I haven't in 15 years. Going to take some Pooh pics too...
We are both in North Central Tx.

Coon. Texas persimmons are a huge part of the diet of coons. You will find persimmon thickets across south and central Texas, even quite a few across the Pecos if you don't go too far west. Adios, Gary

Persimmons got em at home in Fannin co and where I hunt in Freestone. Possum loves em, good eating for humans after the first freeze, make your mouth pucker if you don't wait for the freeze. funny thing animals know it to and will gobble them up the very minute they are ready. I remember harvesting them with mom as a kid often fighting mr opossum during daylight cause they practically relocate to the tree unit the fruit is all eaten. Deer like them too!

Definitely persimmon. Fruit was ripe and ready a couple weeks ago at my place. The wild black persimmons around my pond have very large seeds in them. The coons usually get them all before the deer have a chance.
