Lu is me and the wife's first kid. I picked her up from my shop 16 years ago. She severely abused and she would
Pee herself when you pet her. She turned into the best dog I have ever had. She tracked, could run a hog and defend you to the end. She held off 6 or 7 ridgebacks one day that where trying to get at my mom. She was the warmer on a cold night. The other people in camp would try to bribe her to get her to sleep with them. She got a little stubborn in her last few years but she earned it. She was diagnosed with liver cancer about a year ago and she just had nothing left. I took her to the ranch last weekend and she had a blast and one last hooray then Sunday she just wouldn't get around real good. So I took her to the vet on Monday and the vet said just keep her comfortable. We went back to the ranch for Thanksgiving and had to carry her everywhere and she had completely stopped eating and would vomit every time she drank water. Finally decided to take her the Dr.Whitten in Del Rio (top notch vet clinic). They let us say our good bye's and her ashes will be spread over the ranch.

This was the weekend before Thanksgiving. She was trying to show me she still had it and then she just laid down and never really got back up for the next few days.

Great tribute. Y'all were obviously excellent owners. Thanks for letting us get to know how great a dog she was.

cibolo, Excellent pictures and story of your old friend. I lost an old dog recently and never really understood the relationship between a dog and a person till then. My condolences sir, it is a tough time.

Sorry for your loss. We lost our 10 year old pup October 29th. They become just like our kids.

Thanks guys, she was a awesome dog. I almost feel guilty for going back to the ranch and leaving her at the vet for cremation. My Aussie is really confused and will not come lay down with me. My 3 year old thinks she is still at the vet and we are going to try and explain it to him in the morning.

I was thinking about her last night while sitting in the stand and I remembered one time down at the family place between Stockdale and Floresville. I was out in the barn welding up a gate. We had been loading cows for auction earlier that day
And when we where done we left the gate open to let them graze it down a little. There was probably 10 or 12 head in there. Lu was maybe 3 at the time. My wife came out and shouted for me to see if I knew where Lu was at. I lifted my helmet and looked around the corner to see Lu with all them cows nose to butt lined up on the fence. She never bit any of them but was nipping at em and keeping them
In line. She was ready to load all of them up. She was an amazing dog and will be missed.

Lu clearly lived a fantastic long rewarding life doing what dogs should be doing, and that was a gift that you gave her - so very sorry for the loss you are feeling and thanks for sharing your tribute. RIP Lu!
