Looking for recommendations, comments, opinions, etc, about side-by-side ATVs.

DW can't drive her sit-over-the-saddle ATV any more thanks to hip injury & surgery. So we're starting to look for a side-by-side that will accomodate at least 4 people, us & Gkids.

(Also asked on fishing forum)

would have to agree ... although I prefer a Kubota RTV ... depends on your price range and whether you need it just for scooting around or actually using it for work around the farm/ranch.

Got a mule, my wife loves it. Bought it used, (10 years old) from THF member. So, don't think you have to go brand new to get her something to ride. Seats 4 so she can take the grandkids riding with her. Oh, be sure that you get a roof. Makes all the difference on a hot texas day.

Bought one when they first came out. Great vehicle, love mine. Rides extremely smooth, and a top speed about 45mph.

Mahindra, bigger cargo box. Better cargo box payload than any other, better towing weight than any other, three year warranty. Seats are more comfortable than ranger. Never rode in a mule. 2in hitch in front and rear standard. Better stock tires than others. And if you buy from Navasot you will get the best customer service you can

Check out Yamaha & Can Am before making your decision - if you live in Texas go across the border to Oklahoma & save state Tax. I bought a can-am commander 800r 2015 and it has been great - go thru anything rock/mud/water - rides great - bunches of accessories - 80hp - the only thing I wish I would have gotten is power steering ( in 4x4 going slow sometimes makes it a bear to turn) power steering is a option on most all sxs now ( get it)

Yamaha Viking & wolverine series up to 6 passengers https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/side-by-side

can-am commander & defender series up to 6 passenger http://can-am.brp.com/off-road/help-me-choose.html

This is the way my started out now has roof/windshield & doors

This is the way it looks after a wet muddy hunting trip, this is also one reason I put doors on it

Don't own one but know a lot of people who have owned polaris rangers and hate them. Several people have told me they flip way too easy and that the mule is the way to go safety wise

Polaris, on my 2nd and never had issues, can't see how one would flip easily unless your 15-20 years old.

Look at the ranger crew or mule fxt. Those are pretty much the popular options. I've had good luck with my ranger but going to try a mule next time around just because.

Well if you get a Ranger don't drive fast in rough country because the chicken squat little 3/8" bolts they use in the upper A frame won't take the abuse.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I don't dog mine, use mostly for working and hunting. I broke the receiver hitch on my crew, had a trailer with three box blinds on it, the thought was in the back of my head but didn't feel like make multiple trips. A lil heatin & beatin and some welding got her back to normal.

have owned 3 rangers and am no longer a fan of them - each one got worse - they started outsourcing many of their parts and are unreliable

I went with a Kubota 1100 - love it

You can't fix stupid

I have a Kubota RTV 900 XT. I have had it for over 4 and a half years. It has close to 3000 hours on it. It is used every day.I have used it to pull the flat bed trailer with 50 bales of hay. I am on my 3rd set of tires. The only thing I have done to it is put a different quieter muffler on it and I changed where it pulls air in for the engine.. Oh and the seat is torn. This thing is what you could call "bullet proof". It is not the fastest or the quietest but it is the tuffest.

I searched for several years before I found a side x side that I liked. I am a rather large person though, at 6'5" and 340 pounds. I ended up getting a Yamaha Viking VI for the leg room and because I have 3 kiddos that love spending time with Dad. I ended up having to buy 2, the first only lasted 3 days before someone decided they wanted it more than me. Be sure to insure whatever you decide to get. If I ever catch who got the first one whip hanged
