So I'm headed to CO next week, I've never been so I can hardly contain myself. My buddies and I have our gear ready and game plan together but we all have a question. We can't decide so I figured I would ask y'all. Do y'all think it would be a good idea to stop in town before we head into the back country for week to get some legal "goodies"? We want to have fun but not be dangerous. Could we set guidelines such as when to indulge or should we just forget about it all together.

you kinda have to set your own guidelines on indulging, after the first night you should have a better idea.
when the going gets really tough, I sit down and rest

Decide if your there for a serious hard core hunt or a party. Either on is ok but I always figured if I drove that far to hunt I was going all in. I could always have a drink or two when I got home! Just my .02. Good luck with your hunt!

Yeah that's what I am leaning towards but of course you always have that one friend who is gung-ho for a party. We make only partake in the event of a kill. As a celebration

If you're talking weed have at it. Alcohol...remember you are going to be at a much higher altitude than east tx and it will affect you differently. Also if they catch you with over the limit and carrying a weapon you could spend the nite in the hoosgow. http://cpw.state.co.us/thingstodo/Pages/Unlawful.aspx

I have to ask, does any of you or your buddies jobs have random drug testing? That stuff stays in your system quite a while and can make you fail a drug test

You are talking weed? You've got to be kidding me. That's the last thing that I would want, someone stoned walking around my camp with a loaded gun.
Cabin rental in Pagosa Springs, Co. Sleeps 10, If interested please PM me.

No drug testing that I know of, we just want to have a good time. Of course the main goal is to kill, but I'm not opposed to getting some goodies to have skittle relaxation.

Have you seen the recent %'s of people that partake? Odds are, you have already been around someone stoned with a loaded weapon. It's much preferable than being around someone drinking/drunk with a loaded weapon.

IMO not a good idea. To each his own, but I would not want to be hunting in your unit even if in the back country if your talking more than a drink at camp at night. May be legal, but in IMO just doesn't mix with weapons or hard earned $ for my hunting trip. Even with friends with the best of intentions, over indulgence can occur, accidents and bad things happen.
Best of luck next week in the Co mountains high country.

I don't care what people do but if I'm hunting with them we will not be taking any kind of drug. The altitude seems to enhance alcohol up their. Not sure what it would do with pot but probably something since we are flat landers.

Are you hunting on federal land? If so, it is not legal.

If you are experienced with the legal goodies they do sell up here, I would say go for it. If it would be your first time trying it, I would suggest just focusing on the hunt. It effects everyone differently and you don't want to have a bad experience out in the middle of nowhere. Also, it technically is illegal to consume it on federal/public land but it is really a matter of discretion. Don't do it around kids or crowds and nobody really cares. Might be different with a GW though.
