I've got a place to dove hunt between Hutto and Taylor that has historically been good if there are birds in the area. I have a good problem because I have a place to hunt near home as well in San Antonio. I'm trying to decide which to hunt for the opening day considering that Hutto is a 2 hr drive and would be 4 hrs round trip to scout I'm looking for any local input on number of birds in the area compared to good years in the past. I know there was a bunch of rain there recently and didnt know how that affected them. Any help is much appreciated.

I will help you out, you stay in S.A.and I will take your place in they Hutto area, the way it has developed in the Hutto area I couldn't tell you where the birds are going to be

Should be a bunch of white- wings. Don't know for sure, I don't go over that way anymore. Good luck anyway!!!!

If you are on the outskirts of either city limits it should be good in Frame switch between Taylor and Hutto not many bird's beeing seen other than a few morning doves

I was in that area last weekend. Didn't see big flock. Few mourning doves flew occasionally.

Sounds like you are right in between Hutto and Taylor, so there wont be the whitewings that youll get real close to the city.

Hard to say if the morning doves will be there or not. Its pretty hit or miss. I wouldnt make the trip to scout because the doves could come and go overnight.

I use to hunt all around that area. The best was just outside of the Taylor city limits. Was in the flight line where the white wings would fly back into town for the night to roost. Flocks of 50-100 birds every minute or so on opening afternoons.

I hunt at the ski lakes out there at Frameswitch quite often and it's definitely hit or miss. Some days you can limit out in an hour and other days you have to work to get a couple birds.

Thanks for all the input thats why i love this forum. This spot is near a white wing flyaway but normally they are on the other side of the road so I'm dependant on the mourning Dove. If their numbers are down from past years then it won't be very good. There is a large uncut milo field nearby so it might just depend on when they cut it. So I ended up staying in town and have been shooting limits but the birds are getting wiser. Yall have any luck up there? Is it worth the drive?

Pville has been mostly a bust from what I have heard...Butto, too. I hunted in Thrall Thurs and Friday and we had plenty of birds. Mucho WW's coming from the neighborhoods into the cut milo. Decent numbers of mournings as well.

That's good to know. I may have to make the drive I have a place close to thrall.
