Do you still have the Winchester 94? My clone of that gun can do 2" groups at 100yd (open sight) all day long with Federal blue box and PPU/Monarch 150gr soft points.
The 336 that I've shot was good with Core-Lockts, 150gr. Only saw it fired on deer, so I couldn't tell you about grouping.
Revert to the 94. Lol

As has been mentioned the first thing to try is different ammo. Mine likes 150 grain Corelokts. It also has a Happy Trigger and I loosened the barrel band. I also put a nice scope for a lever gun on it - VX-3 1.75-6x32. After all is said and done it shoots 1.00"-1.25". Oh, and when I had it apart to install the trigger I polished the internals.

I haven't. It wasn't out yet when I was trying different ammunition for mine.
