What's the wildest thing you've seen on the side of the road in Texas? My grandad swears up and down that, down on I 10 west of Junction a feller pulled over and picked up a suitcast that was sitting on the shoulder. He opened it up and to his dismay someone had stuck a live bobcat in it. Claims it mauled the guy up oneside and down the other before it got away. Now that's wrong on so many levels but dang sure funny!

That is sick... I bet there was a video camera hiding in the bushes taping the whole thing!

This weekend we saw a big white hog on the side of the road. Domestic I believe but that fat sucker had to way over 500#. Shocked the heck out of me. Just rooting around in the bar ditch along I-10.

Cody, That story about finding a bobcat in a suitcase has got to be the oldest urban legend I know of.
Before he died, my father in law used to tell lots of stories about his days in western and southern Oklahoma working for Southwestern Bell. Several of his favorites concerned hunting stories with a judge and another guy during WWII and the days of meat rationing when they lived in Elk City and he was all the telephone company there was for several counties for repair and intallations, my wife was born in Sayre Oklahoma in '44.
Anyway it seems that there was a series of seep ponds and stock tanks they liked to jump shoot that could be walked in a route over a couple miles and since meat was tight the judge winked at bag limits and the Warden was never going to question the judge. As they snuck up on the first pond they spotted a bobcat and the judge wanted it for a mount so he shot it with the little 32 pocket revolver that he ususally hid under his courtroom robes. It was a good shot that did little damage to the hide or the head and they scooped the cat into one of the dozen or so tow sacks they were using to carry ducks in and because they were close to the road they left the bag tied up on the side of the road to be picked up when they completed the circle. They shot a bunch of ducks over the next couple hours flushing them from one pond to the next and had gotten back to the car that was parked couple hundred yards from the bag the bobcat was in, only to see another car with some guys in it stop and scoop up the bobcat, throw the bag in the floor and haul it around the next bend without ever stopping. When the judge's car went chasing after the car they saw it pull off across the bar ditch and all 3 guys erupted at once as the car slowed to a stop and as they got closer they could see one very PO'd spit kitty standing on the top of the drivers seat swatting at the driver who was reaching back into the car for his keys or something... the judge drove on as he didn't want to get caught by someone he didn't know with the bobcat out of season.
Dunno how true this was but I heard the same story from him for over 30 years before he died in '96 and he always told it exactly the same every time!!! LOL!!! and this was supposed to have happened in 1943!!!

I noticed a dead bobcat on the side of the road in Rowlett, that was pretty wild, another time I almost hit a coyote on 190 right in front of Home Depot in Rowlett, boy that animal can flat run.

This wasn't on the side of the road but never the less pretty funny....

My grandfather was a trapper and had trapped a coon. It had died so being Christmas time, he wrapped it up in a nice box and put a pretty bow on it. He then proceeded to the nearby shopping center and placed the "present" on the back of a car....after a few curious shoppers past it by, one lady scoped it out, looked both ways and made off with it! Needless to say, she probably doesn't pick stray packages anymore!!!!!!

After the collapse of the ratite industry in Texas several years back, I often saw emus and ostriches grazing in the highway right-of-ways, especially in Palo Pinto County. The birds weren't worth anything, so the ratite ranchers just turned them out.

Saw a dead badger on the shoulder of 2096 between Bald Prairie and Easterly a few years ago. Never seen a badger around there before or since. Thought it was a HUGE coon, at first. Stopped for a look. Nope, it's a badger.

Near Pipe Creek on Hwy 16 there was a full sized metal shed (8 x 10 foot maybe) sitting on the side of the road. It had gone air born from the trailer it was in and it landed right side up, slightly mangled and twisted. The doors flew off further away against the fence that followed the road.
There was a post on here were guys shared stories of everything from chains and coolers to ammo being found on the hwy.

My mother in law was going down the highway and passed a nike shoe box right on the side of the road. She noticed as she passed it the box did not blow around like it would have if it was empty. She turned around and went back to the shoe box. She stopped and picked it up and sure enough she could tell by the weight that it wasn't empty. She placed the box on the passenger seat beside her and continued on her way. A few miles down the road she decided to open the box and see what kind of shoes they were. She opened the box and there was a dead cat in the box.

I could not help but laugh my butt off when she told me about that.

A body. Back in the early/mid 70s. Ferguson@Samuel in Dallas.
I was a kid and on the way to school. I guess the police had just arrived. It was covered in a white sheet.
