Not sure if I just sick as a pheasant hunter or if I have really bad luck. I spent Saturday through Wednesday morning pheasant hunting non stop. Every day from daylight till dark. I drove 600 miles, after I got into kansas, driving around to different walk in access spots. I walked miles and miles and miles, through crp, grain stubble, corn stubble, cat tails, creek bottoms and just about every other kind of terrain I could find and never got a shot off at a single rooster. I jumped a few hens, but no roosters. We managed one bird, my buddy got it when the owner of the motel invited us to his farm one afternoon. That was it. I finally gave up and went to Cheyenne bottoms to duck hunt. And even walked a few more miles around there without jumping a rooster. I hunted all around dodge city, jetmore, rush county and everywhere in between. Maybe next year.

Other than that, how did you enjoy the play Mrs. Lincoln?

Erichugh, don't be hard on yourself, on the Pointing Dog Journal web site those guys that live in KS are having a hard time finding roosters.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Yep. I got an email from Farmer Ray about a hunt from hail.

Wow. I was planning on going to that area later in the week. The last several years we hunted that area we got about one bird each in aa 5 day hunt.

Maybe it was just bad luck, I think a lot of the area around Dodge City have been hunted hard. I found a lot of evidence of birds that had been cleaned. At least you did well on the waterfowl.

One tip is to look for WIHA in counties where there is not a ton, a lot of guys focus on the counties that are loaded. Another tip is to focus on areas that have irrigation circles near them. That water in that Dodge City and east of there type area was critical for hens to want to nest the past two years, so those areas had much better carry over rolling into this spring. I think you might do better trying further east of Dodge City area stinkbelly (straight east and north east).
