I've used the butt-out tool fairly successfully. It is faster than trying to cut around the anus if you are keeping the whole carcass. Just keeping the quarters and backstrap is also an approach that means NO guts.

Get one of these and you won't need to cut the pelvis:

I use the butt-out 2 and once i got the hang of how to use it I like it. It pulls the rectum and sometimes the bladder out too.

I then saw the pelvis in half like some others the guts just come rolling out.

Adult late onset hunter. Why did I wait so long to get started?

It really works. We also used it on a wild hog a buddy of mine shot a couple of weekends ago.
Worked on that too.

Agreed Pitchfork, with a sharp knife and some elevation either hoisted or rope through a tree, I can clean one inside of 15 minutes with no bladder breakage and no poopy spilling in the cavity..
+2, I never field dress a deer

I use the sawblade on my leatherman. I carry the leatherman anyway, so it is handy and it works well.

I actually took a dremel tool and rounded the tip of the saw blade to make it less likely to puncture the bladder.
