Highest numbers are going to be in the Edwards Plateau counties.

Changes every year depending on rain and weather. Drought killed half of our deer 3 years ago

We talking best county for hunter success? Best counties for mature, trophy whitetails? To keep it on relatively even ground, let's go with low-fenced ranches only. I'll go with the Golden Triangle of south Texas. Honorable mention to Shackleford, Grayson and whichever is the best county bordering the Red River. Plus any of the main river drainages in Texas.

For sheer numbers, hard to beat Llano, Mason and Gillespie counties.

Seems like Grayson county has had a dang good reputation the past several years. Poorest: Eastland county.....too much pressure and nobody likes AR's. Ya'll just keep driving on through. bolt

For sheer numbers and what I've witnessed, anywhere around Bandera.

There are some studs taken in Grayson but most you will never see or hear about.

Without a doubt these three , i have taken some good ones in webb and in zavala in my earlier years .The edwards plateau holds some really good ones that usually don't get much said about them because most like to keep it to themselves .

Actually Maverick is way smaller than Webb but ranks in Boone and Crockett as the top producer of book deer in all of Texas, both typical and non typical, in the past 30-40 years. Webb if I remember is second.

I have the details at our deer camp and will grab it next trip down and post it here. Very interesting data from B&C Club.

Here's some interesting albeit a bit outdated info from B&C.

And another that's a bit outdated but gives you an idea.

http://www.tecomate.com/content/index.ph..._crockett_buck/

Webb has the most entries based on it's sheer size. Dimmit has the most on a sq. mile basis. I have no doubt that Maverick Co. produces as many B&C bucks/acre as anywhere in the last 15 years.

where are you finding on the B&C site the county rankings? I compiled all this a couple of years ago and I used the ten year and thirty year total book deer by county and Maverick ranked highest in both. Maybe we are looking at different data.

You are correct sir. I've seen the pics and know the men. Funny thing is most of them hunt for free.

I have lived in Grayson for over 35 years and there are two things that come to mind. Grayson is a bowhunting county, Grayson has adequate water with Lake Texoma, portion of Ray Roberts and many adequate stock tanks. There are few tracts of land containing over 1000 acres, and many of the small 10-50 acre tracts have feeders set just to attract wildlife. deer2

I don't know why, but I'm shocked that Grayson is in there with 7. Live and learn I guess.
