Wanting to build a small half-pit blind on my place and looking for tips from anyone who has built one. Basically want it to only be about 20" deep x 24" wide so I can sit at ground level with my legs in the trench. I don't have access to excavation equipment so it will be dug out manually. Thinking about building a box with pressure treated pine and wrapping it with pond liner. Not sure I want to spend the Big bucks to get a fiberglass pit. Anyone done this?

Buy 150 quart Rubbermaid horse troughs from tractor supply and put a 2x10 or 12 across the top for the seat.

Had a lease once where all the pits were only 20inch deep.
Made me so frustrated and mad I almost quit going.
I guess if your having to hand dig it I might could see it.
Would you buy hip waders? Would you buy a two wheel drive truck?

I have seen some fiberglass or plastic water troths that might work for you at Ranch Supply.
Personally I wouldn't bother unless I could at least sit down in it with the sides a minimum of shoulder high when sitting.

I really like those fiberglass three man blinds but not sure I want to drop $895.00 plus shipping and all other accessories. I just need to cut my profile. I built a bigger box blind next to my pond and it is flaring the few ducks we get.

So here is the deal. I get hunting access to this property by building blinds and taking the owner out with me. The owner is what I call a fair weather hunter. Wants to sit in as cozy a blind as possible and be protected from wind and rain. If it had recliners even better. Layout is would be awesome but not the even a consideration. He has three ponds that hold ducks but the cover is sparse so they won't even come Close to the box blinds. So I'm trying to find a good compromise. The ponds are ok with only average size populations so they aren't worth dropping massive bucks on a full out pit. Trying to keep it around $500 a blind.

I don't see how that is "cozy".

Building on side of a pond you could rig a lean-to style roof over
It and keep it under 4' tall from grade level. About the height of tall weeds and bushes.

I watched the video. What makes it work for them is the very thick walls of brush in front and behind them.
The walls of brush nearly close in over their heads. The one hunter even comments on how thick it is.
You will need to have brush or panels that do the same.

I would think it wouldn't be that costly to get a frame welded up with sheet metal panels skinning the walls.
