Thought those of us hunting San Saba county can exchange information here. I saw the buck below chasing a doe Saturday evening. If the doe had continued running toward my stand, I would have had a shot but she ducked into the tree line. I haven't seen any other signs the rut in on at my lease located a few miles from Rochelle.

I'm headed out tomorrow through Monday night.

The buck is one of four we're targeting.

All the recent rain has greened everything up and all the spring rains have really helped the wildlife. We are working on a new property that is shaping up nicely, tons of oaks and persimmons with some pecan tree's mixed in. We are seeing quail for the first time in many years, the turkey are doing well and hogs are way down in numbers. Also seeing a few exotics from time to time.

I was lucky enough to spot and stalk this guy opening afternoon and get VERY close for the shot. I need to get back to the taxi and score him. There are some really good 2-3 year old bucks that will be monsters in a few years.

Nice Buck DC6Ranch!

I was at my least Sunday and Monday morning. No rut happening here yet. Small Bucks and Does but the big boys didn't showed.

Thanks!

I was seeing pre rut activity among the young bucks and I shot this guy as he traveled with a doe. I haven't been out in a while but I've heard reports that the young ones are still running. Hoping things kick up with this front coming because I plan on hunting this Friday through thanksgiving week. banana2 I'm really after doe now though but won't pass on something bigger that what I've already got.

First of all that is a fine buck in the photo….

Secondly, bucks are rutting and rutting HARD in San Saba County (and have been for over a week)

Hope you get the buck!!!

Oh man! I was at the lease Sunday and Monday and saw many does with no sign of the rut. The pictures from Thurs and Friday last week of some of our large bucks also had no sign of the rut. The bucks are still traveling together.

I'm headed back Friday - Sunday night.

I appreciate the update!

DrifterAT:

I own a small place on the McCulloch County side of Rochelle. We haven't hunted the place since opening weekend of bow season. My son got a spike (on one side) for his second-ever bow kill (got a doe out there last year). I was out there the day before opening season of rifle but didn't see any rutting activity at that point in time. So far I've only seen young bucks except on late night trail cams. I haven't been back since but will be there Sunday. I'll try to report back early next week.

Near Goldthwaite today (Mills County) reports of deer running everywhere. Very hot right now!

Lot of movement the last couple of days. Our does are still in the pre-rut. I've seen several bucks of which 4 were 8pts. Two of the 8pts I'd shoot if this was late December but I'm still holding out for our targeted bucks. I did rattle in an 8pt yesterday.

Had three Axis bucks and about 20 pigs on one of my trails. I'm passing on the hogs but may take the largest sow if they show up tonight since we're leaving tomorrow.

My daughter took an 8pt yesterday. I'll post up once I can access pictures.

It was a chilly 25 this morning.

Seen a lot of bucks the past couple of days. This morning I had 7-8 bucks come by pushing 8-9 doe. The doe wouldn't even come to the feeder because there was always a buck pushing them along. Didn't see much this evening.

I need to start shooting some of these dry doe instead of taking pics and being lazy.

We had about 20 deer here in front of the cabin several times over the weekend. Guess they have learned I have a no shoot rule in this area. bang

Over here in Rochelle, my son bowhunted yesterday evening. He saw three young bucks and three doe. Nothing was chasing though. I have heard from neighbors that they are chasing...just haven't witnessed it ourselves.

I watched one of my four year old bucks mount a doe twice this morning. Other than that the action was pretty slow.
