I took my six year old son deer hunting for the first time this weekend. He has been turkey and teal hunting. We got his first deer hunts in and will go out for ducks here in a few weeks.

Saturday morning we saw a few deer, but nothing we really wanted to shoot. Saturday evening we shot a mature doe. Sunday morning before light I had a mule deer doe, a young whitetail doe, and this guy at the feeder. After watching him through binoculars for about five minutes to determine he met our definition of a cull, I pulled the trigger on him in the first minute of legal shooting time. He ran about fifty yards.

I believe the dad shot the buck fellas? At least that is the way I read it ( I did read it too!)

Nice heavy rack on that buck, but sure looks odd on that big body, still would make a great euro. Wont be to many years and your son will be taking you hunting up

Thanks for the compliments, folks. Yes, I shot it. The little guy shoots a BB gun, but he's not ready to shoot at more than about 10 yards yet! Maybe another year or two. I don't want to rush it.

Smart man, you know him better than anyone. I bet he is just tickled to be in the field with his dad seeing all the "cool" stuff. up

His favorite part, and mine if I'm honest, was when we shot a pile of intestines and stomachs with a shotgun at five yards. Chunks rained down for a full two seconds. wink
