Took off Friday so drove up to the lease Thursday night in Archer County to meet a buddy. With the cold front on its way and from what we saw the previous weekend, we had pretty high hopes on seeing some good buck movement.

Friday morning I decided to hunt my dads blind. With the high winds we had last week, I wasnt too confident my pop-up withstood the beating too well, and didnt want to come up on a mangled blind in the pitch dark. Only saw a couple does, 4 coyotes (cant wait to start cleaning them up once the season is over), and a bunch of cows.

Fast forward to Friday afternoon. My dad came in, so I had no other option but to go to my pop up blind on the other side of the property. To my surprise, the blind held up better than expected. I've had some serious issues with the cows over at my feeder, and I had to run them off before even getting settled in.

The weather was a little warmer than expected, and saw only a couple dove for the first couple hours. From my trail cams, I knew there was a pretty wide 9 point coming in, but still wasnt sure whether I was going to take him if he showed, but wanted to get a better look at him in person. Other than that, my confidence wasnt too high, but figured at the very least, I may get a shot at a hog or two.

As the sun went down, I texted my dad and another buddy about plans for dinner. And of course, talking about dinner got me pretty hungry, so I bent down to get some beef jerky out of my backpack. As I was quietely trying to open the wrapper, I looked back at the feeder and could see a huge body on the back side of the pen. Got my binocs up, and all I could see was horns, though I knew immediately, it was no average buck and we definitely had not seen him before.

Put my binocs down, got rifle up, made sure I could thread the bullet bw the cattle panels, and Boom. Ran about 30 yards and piled up.

Rough score of 154 and some change!

That bruiser's got it all bud, really nice one. Out of curiosity, are you on a large size acreage?
