He's really happy. Nice buck and beautifully proportioned, though not a huge deer. And boy did that buck stink. He's been chasing the ladies. Still had some body fat, but not much. The fat was pure white, not yellowish, and I always take that as a good sign on meat quality. For info sake, the rifle was a 308 Ruger Int'l, with a Burris 4.5-14 scope. The bullet was a 150 gr SST over a medium load of IMR 3031. Bullet exit was the size of a quarter, and the deer went 10 steps after bullet impact.

And the REALLY good news. His sister, the cheerleader and homecoming queen, has now decided that she wants to hunt. The girl is a known good shot with rifle and pistol. I am sooooo happy. I have even offered my beloved Tikka 260 to her, since it's her favorite rifle to shoot.

The wife had mixed feelings on that 8 point getting shot. She loved looking at him, and God help me if I had shot him....but it's Ok for the Grandson to shoot him. I slept in this morning, and when I got up the wife said that I had just missed seeing the 8 point in the side yard, about 40 yards from the house, and he had just left and was walking down the dirt road to the power line ROW. I knew that's where the Grandson was. Soon after that..."Bang".

The wife pouted a little bit, but she knew that we had hoped that the much adored Grandson would get a nice buck.

This afternoon we hunt for pigs. If the Granddaughter gets a pig this will be the best day ever.

Happy for you grandpa, but PICTURES man, pictures. I'm living for the day my #1 grandson is old enough to down something.
