Greater Canadas were all over Texoma when I was a kid. They also used to farm peanuts up there. I know the peanuts are gone. Not sure about the geese

Have killed a few around Knox City but mostly the much smaller cacklers out there. Some years the Greaters do not come that far south. Might try Panhandle, or even Kansas for better numbers.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Hunt as close to the towns as you can wherever you go and that's where you'll have a good chance, we've killed some in the panhandle in fields right on the edge of towns

Best Canadian Greater Hunt is the early hunt East of I-35 North of Dallas (Sherman-Pottsboro). They are golf corse geese and are huge. Basically, you are hunting resident populations.

Of the over half dozen subspecies of Canadas there are two big ones and one really big one. Moffitt and Interior I think the ones we often call Greater, I can't tell them apart, I have killed from Oklahoma to western Kansas as migrators. The really big ones Giant or Maxima are what Oklahoma stocked in the 1980s and what most of the resident geese are, though I am sure some of the other two species mentioned above are too. Those Giant Maxima resident geese are your best bet if your doing it on your own. I have targeted them successfully on some DFW lakes during the resident season when given the time to scout specifically for them. Even on high pressured areas. They leave the roost before sunup when hunters are coming in, then most hunters are done for the morning, off eating breakfast or lunch, or back home when the birds return to the lake. Several if not most Oklahoma lakes have big resident Canadas and the population is ever growing. Non hunting locals are usually very helpful for locating them. Spend a few days on one of those lakes with a good setup and you should not have a problem. If your looking for a guided hunt close to home for the bigger migrators I would look into guides in the TX panhandle to western Kansas and book a hunt later in the season for a better chance at the bigger subspecies in the mix.

School me please The TX panhandle (Lubbock area) is great hunting for the Lesser Canadas. You may see an occasional stray honker there. This is also a key landing spot for Sandhill Cranes. If you want to shoot big honkers, the Greater Canadas, they stop a bit farther north. I use to live in Colorado and it is a good spot. If you want to go to Colorado, there is a good friend of mine that has been guiding there for years. Look up Jason Krill at Colorado Wingsport. - www.coloradowingsport.com.

You can definitely kill them in Lubbock but it does not happen too often. We did have a field when I was up there in college inside city limits and we shot probably 100 greaters out of it in one season. As said before, the closer to town the better your chances. If you want to go to Lubbock call Brian at Blackfoot Guide Service. He leases almost all of the fields close to town and if anyone could put you on one it would probably be him.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.

You can get into some good numbers in northern OK, southern KS or souther MO. Have hunted all three places with good success. Most of the B52s in N TX are residents but will have a few migrators. For whatever reason, they really don't come down this far south in good numbers.

Lubbock is your best bet to get them in Texas. We shoot around 15% big geese on average. We killed over 300 last season. The closer you are to the city limits, especially in the city limits, the odds are better for sure. Best time is around Thanksgiving and the last two weeks of the season. Once the squeakers show up, odds decrease. Out of state, go to Colorado or the Dakotas and Minnesota. Good luck, B
