Talk about a long road ! Every since I was a little kid I new I wanted to hunt and fish but no one in my family hunted. As soon as I was old enough to drive my journey begain either with a Jon boat straped to the top of my 4 door Buick Skylark to deer stands crammed in the trunk of that white rusty old gas guzzler. From north east Texas to south east Texas and to west Texas to North central Texas,Oklahoma to Arkansas I have walked the woods a pastures. I have been rained on, hailed on and out ran a few tornadoes. Me and my buddies have laughed and cryed, bled and iced a few bruises in search of what every hunter dreams of " A big old buck " I was 17 when I shot my first doe and in my late 20s when I shot my first buck. It was a beautiful 4 point from west Tx. I've never had the money to stay on any deer lease for any length of time so most of all my hunting has been Public hunting. After all the years of public hunting we have done through the years I started to learn a thing or two about the deer woods and it slowly started to pay off. I've shot deer with rifles, shotguns and bows and in my book a public hunt whitetail 120 to 130 class is a trophy by all means for me and I've shot plenty of these but NEVER anything bigger. Every year starts with high expectations with the end of the season in question " I'M I EVER GOING TO GET A MONSTER TROPHY BUCK"? I'm 50 yrs old now and I started thinking my time was running out. We'll this year was differant. My hunting buddy from the past 15 years talked me in to going out in the woods this past couple of weeks and hanging some stands to take advantage of signs of the pre rut going on. I went with low expectations of a Trophey Buck and I new we would see deer and it would be the same as every other year, a nice buck, a doe a few hogs. Well this year was differant the good Lord had other plans for this worn out outdoorsman. I got in my stand at 3:00 pm and at 4:30 pm a nice buck came running really fast down the trial I was hunting and following was the biggest set of Antlers I have ever seen coming MY way and with one shot it was over the buck of my lifetime was laying quitely on the ground. My buddy came walking up and said he had shot a Coyote that looked like they were chasing two bucks and we're headed my way and one of the bucks was a monster. So with a big old grin I said he is laying right over there. He scored 169.00 5 1/2 yrs old.
Thank you Lord for Lightning the Fire back up in this ol guy.
