First I want to say hello to all! I have been reading this forum off and on for a couple years, decided I should go ahead and join! Thank you to all for a wealth of knowledge and expertise!

I have hunted for many years, mostly birds, but have been hunting deer too for the last few years. Have yet to have a decent buck I would be proud to call my first so all I have harvested is does. I have this guy lurking around in the dark, haven't seen him one time in the day. I think I'm throwing too much corn in the evening so I will make that adjustment this weekend. All that aside, several of my buddies say this deer is about 3.5 and to not shoot but I'm thinking he would be a great first buck? Not to mention I don't know that I'll even have access to the place I'm hunting next year so what's yalls opinion?

From that one pic I see 4 and he will show his age better as the rut nears.

Don't let anybody tell you what you should be proud of. Go bust him then post pics.

welcome to the forum...

No requirements, do you think he's good size and do you agree with my buddies about him being 3.5?

welcome and kill him if you see him. You may only see him one time if ever.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Haha, I do agree Curly but I'm not experienced enough to really tell by pictures and haven't seen him in person. Just curious if most would be happy with this one!?

He'd be one hell of a first buck, but I'd side with your buddies and say 3.5. He'll be a monster in two years! If losing the place is a real possibility then rifle rifle rifle

I see a 4 year old in that picture.

He would make an awesome first buck.

I recommend you give him a dirt nap. up

Thanks for the input guys! My buddies are saying the same thing duck coach, 2 years and he'll be a monster. Thanks for the reassurance though, I want my first buck to be a good one and plan on having it mounted so.. Hopefully some pictures to follow this up at some point!

elmer Shoot him and smile pretty for the camera if you like him. A trophy is in the eye of the hunter who harvested it.

The other side of the conversation leads to if he's 3.5-4 where is his pawpaw? I have many doe coming in, a 4 point and a 6 that I think are brothers(they're always together) a pretty nice 8 and this ten. None are 5+ or fully matured from what I've learned here, so there almost has to be some bigger and better somewhere?

welcome I would call that buck a 4 yr old. With more pics of him I might even go 5 yr old based on his neck to brisket. They key here is, not what we think of him but rather if you like him kill him. cheers Nothing wrong with that buck.

I'd call him a 4 based off the 2 pics you posted. Those bucks in Kent/Stonewall County are much longer and lanky bodied than bucks in other areas I have hunted in. Some of them do not show their age like bucks in other areas do.

Hearing a few 4's definitely makes me feel better about taking him. Do you agree those are the same buck?

Take him. He is nocturnal. You will have maybe a 3 day window to get him. To he'll what anyone thinks. If it's your property or a lease with no requirements, give him a hot shot of lead. I'd definitely say 4 and if that walked out on my property and it was my first buck.. bet your [censored] he would be dropped

Hunting in magnolia would be better in a gated community.

Age be damned. If you like him, take him. He is bigger than probably 90% of seasoned hunters first deer. Good luck to you sir and welcome
