I set 6-12 on my right and the same to my left, leave a landing zone in the center directly in front of me. It never fails I adjust them at least once during the hunt.

I know conditions change, but if you had one set up you could run from now on, what would you use that covers most situations?

I've heard the V pattern with the tip of the V pointing towards the blind. I've seen guys swear 12 deeks is a waste, 3 or 4 dozen is what you need. Lots of guys say you need the spread to match the live birds you see, pintail deeks needed for pins, widgeon needed for widgeon ect...what say you?

I run 12 mallards to the up wind side in a j formation with a wad of 12 teal on the down wind side with 6 gadwalls or wigeon mixed in with the mallards depending on where I am hunting

My decoys get put out just like I see the ducks. Spread out along the waters edge. I don't usually run a spread this big but it was a cold front day and I was hoping to pull down a few migrators. Typically I run something like this, downsized to a dozen or so decoys

Erichugh I too love me some full bodies up on the bank and in shallow water. This is one of my most favorite spots to hunt. We don't always hammer them but it is so far away, we rarely see other people. Nobody is dumb enough to drive that far to go shoot ducks. Uhh Wait....

I am moving more and more to realistic looking spreads each year. I really only use a shape/pattern when I am hunting a crosswind.

I'm thinking of putting out a few of my full body geese to help break up the layout blinds a little, there's no cover at all so they stick out pretty good. They work for now without surrounding cover, but you can tell the ducks aren't real sure about it.

They all look good. Important to mix it up. I really enjoy my two trips to Arkansas and Missouri each year to hunt in the woods and timber. The below pic is 300 decoys in a cypress brake with a 75 yard landing strip down the center. The furthest decoy is 60 yards. Those guys up there are SERIOUS!

I always change mine to type of hole im hunting how much water.. how much canopy, wind, time of year.. etc.. its never the same.. most open water with wind ill have a bigger spread but with groups of decoys and lanes or a hook on one side depending on wind.. just to much to put in one post but I don't like keeping the same spread every time..

My biggest thing that I pay attention to is late in the season. I bunch them together to look like a relaxed flock and tend to put a lot more out. Before Christmas, I just reach, grab, and throw. then take a picture afterwards!

Late season I typically use no Luchy Ducks and only a jerk rig for motion.
