If you hunted on 10 acres with people hunting around you would you harvest this buck, assuming once seen in the day you can confirm he is legal. To me he looks like a young buck from the size of his body. I also cant get him to come out during the day, either right before or after dark everyday.

Splinter, honestly only you are able to make that call. You know your deer population, your expectations from your excursions out there and your neighbors propensities. For me no, I'd probably not shoot him as I've shot many larger and older ones in my 40 years of hunting but I certainly shot some not even as good as him early on. If you like him and he makes you happy, by all means harvest him. FYI, I think he's a 3-3.5 yo from the blurry picture.

I would catch him, saw one side off and hope somebody still doesn't shoot him.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I've heard people say that if you shoot a young buck because your neighbors will shoot it, then you are that neighbor. That being said, I understand your point of view. I live in Copperas Cove and work in Lampasas, and on my way to Lampasas today, I saw bucks chasing does all over the place.

I know I am going to get blasted but yes, if that was the only buck coming around. Where I hunt you better get them before the rut is over or you probably will not shoot a buck that year. There are no woods to stalk in so walking a turn row is useless. You hear a bunch of people on here give stern advice but on 10 acres take what you can get.

Thanks all, I am still undecided. I probably will not shoot it but if he walks in front of my son I will let him gte it for his first buck. I was worried he would be gone after opening weekend but very happy to still see him on the camera. Im starting to think he is hiding out in creek bed during the day and coming to eat at night.

I know a lot of people hunt that area, but you will be surprised with the kind of bucks you will see. Trust me, I've lived in this area my whole life. People are getting more selective with the deer they shoot around there.

I won't shoot a young one with potential ever, no matter the circumstances. Just don't get me excited like a mature or old buck.

With that said I will congratulate anyone that kills a deer that makes them happy. Had a similar situation as you last year on my place. Nice 11 point 3 yr old that I thought stayed pretty much lives on my section and never left, let him walk knowing he would be great. The neighbor's wife got him opening morning on their place. She was ecstatic, her first buck and a good one!! Seeing her all excited about him made me happy for her.

Yes, plenty of TX's bucks to go around for all to enjoy, that's how I see it at least..

Thats a good point. i showed the picture to one of the guys at my work and he thought it was only a couple years old too. His thoughts on it line up with all of yours. Like I said I think I will pass on it myself and if my son can take a shot then I will let him. Another good point that was brought up about letting him wait another year or two is that he will breed and his good genetics will make the population all that much better.

If he's already getting smart about when to show up, you could pass and hope that he dodges the neighbors too.

For me personally, no way. If he makes you come out of your seat and grab our weapon when you see him then by all means go for it and I will be in line to shake your hand and congratulate you.

I would not shoot him and let my neighbors take him if that would make you feel good.
