Hunted a long time and never saw one without a tail. Looks like maybe he was born that way.

Could have been born that way.

I have heard of dogs doing it. Could have happened when he was young and healed up also.

Cool pic, thanks for sharing up

I have seen a few thru the years with half or no tail. I have also heard that coons will grab a fawn by the tail to hold onto them as the fawn tries to run off, breaking it off. I have also heard that an old doe that is not the mother of the fawn will grab it by the tail to flip the fawn away from her, breaking off the tail. Seen on both bucks and does over the years also. Recently, I have had a couple of does with half a tail here on my place. Nice pic and thanks for sharing.

Cool pic.

Sure hope we don't have a cold winter for his sake. The boys are a little exposed with no backside protection.

Does will actually do that to them when they are young. The doe will bite the tail right off, tryign to run them off or what not. Doesn't happen a lot, but it can.

This old doe had more of a bobtail. I had another doe that same year with a bobtail but can't find the pics of her. Same with a couple of bobtail bucks I have seen in years past.

A couple years ago on a bow hunt at Amistad my buddy, WT took a shot at a mouflon lamb and hit the release at the exact moment it stepped forward. His arrow took the tail off but did no other damage. He found the tail and kept it as a souvenir. grin
