Does anyone else use or submit reports to the DU Migration map?

I love to use any technology that I feel will help me be a better educated hunter.

I use satellite imagery to determine game trails in the hunting area in order to figure out the best places to concentrate my efforts.

I have been watching the the DU Migration map and reading reports from north of me. The only good duck report I found was in Marshall, MN. I will keep checking in there and on here to see what people are seeing north of me.

Anyone else doing this?

I don't use it too often. I've seen too many false reports like people saying no ducks on lake x or wma x to drive people away from that area, and things similar to that. Just my opinion though. I have talked to multiple people that have outright said they post wrong info on there for their benefit.

I don't use it either but a little info for you boys down south. I live in southern Manitoba, Canada. We are having an unusually mild winter........ generally the ponds and small lakes would be frozen by now and some snow..................... no snow yet and most water bodies are open. The birds are still in here heavy.

Was 45F here yesterday and suppose to be around the same today, then dropping down around freezing after that. No real snow in the forecast at present.

Birds could be a bit slow working their way south this fall.

My report for what it is worth. smile

Cheers!

I don't use it but I can tell you there are no diver ducks here yet. Lots of woodies still here and they were long gone last year at this time. High winds coming Thursday so that could drive some birds down. I live on a lake and there is nothing here like last year. I'm in SW Michigan.

I agree, I wouldn't think you could trust reports on there for the most part. It would be a really good tool, but anybody can post anything on there so it loses reliability.

Most of the ducks just haven't made it down here yet, but when they do it's going to make for some fantastic hunting.

I feel like my post was pretty clear but I'll give a quick example. I was out of state hunting in Mississippi last year, and saw multiple reports of "absolutely no birds", "ducks just aren't here", ect, and one of my buddies was starting to panic. My group along with several others limited out every day we hunted the WMA. In the midst of those days I still kept seeing more reports of no birds there. Just gotta get out there and put it your time versus relying on that kind of stuff for your scouting. Sorry if this is rambling versus informative.

I use it to look at activity north of us. When people in Arkansas are talking about Specs, its getting time. When people in Kansas and Nebraska complain about their places locking up with ice, it's really close to time!

I can see how some people could use it to throw people off the birds. If you look at enough reports and the field editor reports, I think you can glean enough information to be somewhat informed as to what is moving. I mainly look to the north to see what others are seeing. I had to check reports as far north as Northern Minnesota and southern Canada to find multiple reports of mallards moving.

You will always have people that are less than ethical and provide bad advice on purpose (I think we can all agree it has happened on here). But I still think it is a positive forecasting tool.

I think that's a pretty fair reasoning on how you use it.

You will learn what the real reports are real quick- good comment on water locking up.

Never any different in N Tx or wherever u hunt. Skinny water plus variety of food equals more ducks than your neighbors!! Scout and put in your time, boys

Information Warfare is as important to a duck hunter as the shotgun he shoots, shells he uses, or camo he wears.

The effective use of isinformation/disinformation is a skill often overlooked or neglected. It can be tne one element that can make or break a hunt. Learn it, use it,.

I would look to the DU report for help like I would look for a politician, who is a dumbocrat, who use to live in arkansas, who happens to be shemale, who happens to live in NY now, who..... for help.

I don't hunt public in Texas too often so it doesn't matter to me. I was just answering the man's question.
