Hi Yall, first post here. I just recently moved to North East Texas from out of state and this is my first hunting season here. Typically I would leave a ground blind out all season and may find a spider or two in the blind here and there, no big deal. Well here, I left my ground blind out for two days. Arrived in the morning in the darkness, unzipped the door and looked in with the flashlight. After quickly seeing a scorpion clinging to the roof, about 10 red bodied long leg spiders, some of those fuzzy black spiders with the big eyes, a wolf spider on the ground and a 6" centipede crawling on the side, I decided to just sit against a tree in the rain then take my chances in the blind. Also, the person that owned the property before me had some homemade plywood blinds on the property. Pretty sure I would need a chainsaw to cut through the spider webs inside those suckers the webs are so thick. So im curious, is this normal? Lol.

Normal would be finding a snake. Lol
Sounds pretty normal until temps get down to freezing. Welcome to Texas.

I've never had a problem with bugs.

Makes me wonder if the Thermacell that I sometimes use in my ground blind might leave a residue that helps keep out at other times.

I put one of these in everything. http://www.amazon.com/Prozap-5019510-Pro...RVH838KC2T12ZNQ

Once a year in mid August, the house at our place in Runnels county gets 2 new ones, every blind gets a new 1 and the barn gets a new 1. Back in the days that we kept a pickup there I placed one in the cab of the truck. Under the house in the crawl space we also spread a box of moth balls. By the time deer season rolls around, the smell of the Pro Zap's have permeated everything and the deer are used to the smell and do not associated it with danger.

Spiders are twice as bad at our place in New Mexico, we replace them every 6 months, 1 in the house, 2 in the crawl space and 1 in the shop building. Before we were paying a pest control guy a small fortune to spray every so often. Now we pay a smaller fortune for Pro Zap and the results are just as good.

clap

They are spiders, and harmless at that. Just make friends with them, but have the understanding that if they don't mess with you then you won't kill them.

welcome Get you a gallon sprayer and some Demon WP. Mix it according to the label and spray the inside of your blind and the ground inside.

daddy long legs won't cause harm other than
distractions. the scorpions are all in
the house/shack, and seem to appear in the
tub, or in the cabinet when i'm looking for
a fresh can of coffee. try pulling out some
dishes and bringing several out sometime.
mothballs help.

i leave the popups i have out from
sept thru jan.
never had a snake in one yet, but saw
some about 6-7 feet away before.
there's critters out in the skeery bush.
you'll either have to run 'em off, or
kill 'em, or learn to live with 'em

We leave ours up all season and my wife doesn't have a problem sharing the blind with a few little spiders. Gotta love Texas women. bolt

Get a box of moth balls and hang a bag inside the popup. Will take a few days to eliminate the problem!

Yup welcome to Texas. Use something stated above to control the numbers inside your blind. Don't expect anything to keep bugs out. We got some hard headed critters in them thar woods.

This is the first year I've had an issue with Daddy Long legs in the stand. A colony can sound creepy walking on the ceiling in the quiet dark hour before sunrise.

I like the flea collar idea!

I get various spiders and rodents that come through my popup. I even had a copperhead slither between my feet while I was in the popup. That was a bit unnerving, but no harm, no foul.

I leave my ground blinds out all year. Seems bugs stay in control because no vegetation can grow in them. I still do the quick look for snakes and ants. More annoying even the quality blinds camo bleeds out in the sun. also the smallest tear like small arrow poke turns into several feet by several feet in course of a month with winds. laugh

yours - NOT normal.

you SHOULD have ALSO had a rattlesnake or two, a few copperheads, fire ants on ground, some yellowjackets, maybe an owl, and every remaining square inch covered with mosquitoes. THEN it would be NORMAL!

btw, welcome to TX and THF!!
