I'm out of here at noon hoping to make the evening hunt. Only needed one cup of coffee this morning to wake up.

I know there are other professions out there that are worse than this, but every year, on the friday before deer season, I question why in the world I became a football coach?

I coached for 27 years. Only made one opening day because of a strange 1st round bye in the play-offs. Killed the biggest buck I've ever killed that morning (out of my son's stand none the less ) Got out of coaching this year. Can't tell you how excited I am about Saturday!! I still would not have traded all those years coaching and great experiences, colleagues and kids. I'm ready to make all opening days now.
Secede!!

I am not a coach but my son has a football game tomorrow. Shouldnt opening weekend be a state holiday? Nothing should be allowed to be scheduled.

Oh don't get me wrong, I do love coaching, but there are some things I hate missing. Plus, if we win tonight, we're in the playoffs. So it could go on for another week too! It's one of those things that you want to happen, but don't want it to effect hunting too, but its impossible not to effect it. Its a heck of a catch 22!

Always got to hunt quite a bit, just always late. Hated, literally hated the years I had to coach basketball. There were only two, but two too many. When I was an AD/HFC for several years, the supt and I had an understanding. I'd bust my butt seven days a week from the 4th of July until we got knocked out in football, but after that I was taking a week or more off and he covered my basketball supervision duties. He was a great guy to work for.
Secede!!

This is the most excited I have been in years for opening day of general season. Don't have any particular buck that I am after yet, but the rainfall year is to good to not have a great season. I had opening day 2 other times already this year- Kansas for ML in Sept and opening of Archery season here in Texas. So this is opening day number 3 for me.
