this afternoon I had two bucks prowling by themselves, and one of them appeared to be working a scrape. When the creek drops I'll go over to check if it's a scrape.
And it's a darn good thing I left the herd bull alone and and healthy for about 4 years. His genes are looking good on the young bucks.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

I figure any day now it'll kick in.

we did an aerial survey on thursday near PK lake, 9 of 29 mature bucks were with does. Hunted north of Throckmorton sat and sun and didn't see a single buck with a doe, and saw 14 does sat, 8 does with fawn sun morning. 60 miles apart, but a huge difference.

Not sure where you are at but its in full swing in Coke county. Spent the last week out there and most of the better bucks are completely ignoring corn. Most of them come in and check the feeders for Does and if they don't see any then they keep on going. If you do have Does around they wont be for long because a buck will be by shortly to run them off for you. During the two day cool spell we had I saw Bucks running Does all day long while filling feeders and actually in the stand.

Monday just sitting in the blind watching nature go by. Had a doe that has been showing up gc finally show up at the feeder and grazing. In a little bit she jumps and runs in the tall grass. Im glassing and yep a buck is in the high grass and never comes in for the corn, the doe takes off and he follows after her and I never saw the buck again. Its close here too!!

They are getting close here, again this evening a doe was under the feeder and was nervous, looking around. She bolted out and a 9pt came right in, was milling around eating some corn, then he went out quick. Light was leaving so didn't get to see what spooked him out. And SURE its going to rain Saturday. That's hunting!!

The pre-rut action has certainly started. Way down by the border I saw bucks rubbing, scraping, and sparring just last week.

I live in Grayson Co and hunt in Archer Co. Monday I saw a really nice mature buck with a doe in Grayson Co. The only two deer in the field. I have a buddy at the lease already in Archer Co and he saw two mature bucks eating a the feeder together this morning with a doe running circles in the field and they never acknowledged her presence. HA! so there ya go. Maybe yes, maybe no.
Secede!!

QSYB, that could be bad, I mean if you had one on the hit list and it be one of em. It could be-hopefully they won't kill each other. From the sound, it was a lot of antler clacking together, not a couple of small bucks just pushing each other. Earlier I had seen a large buck with a doe and a satellite buck along a brush line. When I investigated later, the spot they had been at was about 15 yards from a large rub and scrape. Sounds like early rut signs to me. If the rain holds off this weekend could be very exciting.

Northern Brown County I saw my target buck come in with four does last night. He was nose to the ground and cutting one out of the group. Right at the end of legal shooting, three of the four does came back in the field to feed. The buck and the hottest doe (assumption) did not.

I heard a significant sparring match Sunday in Mills County A lot of them are done sparring in different areas, it's time to really assert dominance. Seeing some broke and there's a video that was posted a few days ago of a full blown fight.

Depends on where you are hunting. In Montague Co. they seem to start around 11/10-14. Pre rut is a great time to grunt and rattle. I took a nice 135 last year on 11/5. He can in with a few rattles and presented about 40 yards away. I really wish I had my bow. Would have been a great deer with a bow.

In Cherokee Co near alto the rut is starting up. Have some pics of bucks chasing and some of two bucks really going after each other, no play sparing, their heads are down on the ground and they are PUSHING. At the same time a few bucks are still together... I have pictures of no fewer than 12 new bucks I have not seen before on camera so they are moving around.
