I find it very difficult to do from pictures.

Also I have found from aging known aged deer by tooth wear that sometimes they don't show nearly as much wear as you would think they would.

That one is difficult. I would call that an older 3 yr old(born early) or very young 4 yr old(born late into the fall). 3 yr old by the last cusp being worn flat, if it was angled down to the outside I would say 4 all day long. Sharp edges on all teeth also.
You can get some good pocket aging tools and wall aging plaques from these guys.

Id call him 3 also.. good spacing and dentine showing in 3rd cusp but tips of them are still sharp and not much showing in the back.. the back cusp is strange though its flattened out a good bit

That threw me at first along with the amount of dentin to enamel then looked at the sharpness of all the teeth. Not enough wear on the crests on any tooth. When I saw the last cusp I said 5 but then looked at the rest.

Was this deer on protein feed or native browse?

I can't get him over 3 from those pics, but wouldn't argue with you if he's 4. Way too many shape edges for 5 I think.

And Little Caesar's is my favorite....

Family land, next to Public land. We don't feed, rarely go there. He had a belly full of grass/plants/green stuff. A few cow pastures around, maybe eating there too.

Looks like a 3 yr old to me. Order the pocket aging tool on the link stx provided. Carry it in your pocket and use it on every deer you have the chance to. I used one for a few years and could probably use a refresher! What's so simple about it is you can lay the laminated copy right alongside the deer's jawbone for comparison. Quickest way I know to learn.

I thought the back cusp on the closer side of the pic was just a damaged/broke tooth. But after zooming in it looks that way on both sides?

Free-range deer on sandy soils wear faster due to all the grit they ingest. Maybe that grit collects in the very back of the mouth. Cud chewing causes the grit to grind that back molar more quickly?

Maybe that deer had an overbite issue peep Your thinking to hard on this one. The deer is dead and it won't matter now what age it was cause he/she ain't coming back grin

I'd say 3.5 at the most. There's very little wear on his first two premolars the dentine on the 5th and 6th tooth is definetly not as wide or wider than the enamel on the lingual crest. Looking straight down on the teeth the dentine on the lingual crest of the 4th tooth is about the same width of the enamel maybe a little wider so I'd say 3.5.
