A couple of oat and rye plots. This is exactly 7 days after the first rain.

I started to post my food plot photos and then thought, "Arn't we silly, posting photos of grass." So I decided just to enjoy yous and not post the 100 photos I took of my plot yesterday.

Looks good. The flooded one don't though. I don't have a before picture of mine in young county and will not see it until opening morning, but the timing of rain has been perfect for the last several days. The first rain was the day after I put it down. The hogs probably decimated some of it, but since it is mostly a series of several separate patches in woods clearings, it should be ok overall. Hoping in my pictures to come it will look as good as Jacobs. Mine is a little different in that the main crop is turnip, radish and clovers, but does have a lot of oats and rye I used as filler in those smaller seeds to aid spreading it more evenly.

Well, they're coming along. A week of sunshine will do some good.

This plot sat in the dust for three or four weeks.

This is after two rains (15" total) and a couple of days of sunshine.

Second plot pre-rain.

Post rains.

Feeder and stand were up from last year, 10+ acres of real thick brush got cleared second week of bow season. Came out two weeks ago and planted there was a nice 10 point eating at the feeder at 10am, had today off so rolled out and so far saw little young 6pt early.

Here are two food plots that I did. One I plowed, leveled, fertlized, broadcast seed, compact the seed into the ground. The other one on the fence line, I had a bag of oats left over so I tore it open and just walked down the line and back letting it spill out. I did not cover the seed, fertilize, or anything except spill the oats on the ground. Goes to show you how much I know about being a Botanist and the best way to grow stuff.

Are the deer hitting your food plots? I have so many acorns on the ground that I haven't seen a single deer track in either of my food plots all week

In last 10 days a vast amount of acorns have fallen. I have tracks in food plot, but I also have a feeder on the edge of the plot, so I don't know if they are eating any of the oats while walking to the corn or not. I'll let you know after Saturday.....I hope. Said a 90% change of rain in Eastland Friday night and 100% Saturday morning.Oh well, it will be good for the oats, and sitting in a stand with a tin roof listing to the rain will cause me to get some of the best sleep that I have gotten in a long time.

I have deer in my oats a lot now, starting to get left over corn and pellets even. Also have acorns falling, but the oats are young and tender.

Acorns have been falling like hail, so no deer are hitting my plot. Mine plants just came up too and the clover in it is only just now sprouting so it is a bit early for Deer to be using it. Turkeys are wearing it out though.
