That the rut is on yet in Northwest Central Texas, Young county in particular? Not likely to get out until next week and wanting to know if I'm missing it already. Thanks.

Not in northeast panhandle aground shamrock.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

No hard evidence or breeding activity on any of our places NW of the metromess.

It will take place within a few days of when it always has, at least for the last 40 or so years.

This is about as accurate as anything in print you'll ever find. ---> TPWD rut info

This is my 20th year hunting in Stephens county,. Rut is always in the 10th thru the 25th of November range. Most of the better bucks we've killed over the years have come the 2nd and 3rd weekends.

I was waitomg for either Stompy or Tye chime in.....they'vw hunted this area for a long time from north of Eastland county to southern Eastland county. Now these cool temperatures may be causing more movement but in my experience, Stompy is right. The second and the third weeks is the hard evidence you're looking for.

My daughter killed a buck yesterday morning in SE Kent county that came in looking for does. He made a beeline straight for the feeder pen but showed no interest in eating. He checked the pen and saw it was empty so he continued around the backside and worked over a scrape that's been growing. We thought he was about to take off when he suddenly changed course and came in downwind to a corn pile where 4 does had been eating the night before. I grunted and he gave her a perfect broadside shot at 60 yds. I have hundreds of pics of 7 different bucks hitting this feeder since the end of Aug and he was not one of them. No idea where he came from.

Bucks are cruising, establishing the pecking order and staking out their territories. Younger bucks may be harassing does, but the actual breeding period isn't for another week or two. The peak of the rut should occur between the 14th and the end of November. The weekend before Thanksgiving is usually my best weekend.

In clay county the deer were not showing any sign of rut activity, but then again we didn't see any real bucks other than young ones. I am hoping the big boys are out marking their territory and eating locally before moving and roaming more during the rut in the second-third week of November. Was really disappointed to not see any big boys this weekend but we'll see how it all shakes out. Heard one rifle shot Saturday evening, other than that it was a very quiet weekend.

A lot depends on the area, place I have been on in Eastland County near Cisco for 14 years rut Is now with harassment of the does been going on for a couple weeks. Have seen mature bucks breeding does in mid October but the most of the breeding happens right around November the first of November plus or minus a few days.

Place I hunted for 8 years in far Northeast Callahan county count on peak of rut around Thanksgiving. Those properties are less than 30 miles apart.

Most of the activity I see here, is the 1st 14 days of season, probably the best around he second weekend. Also see an uptick around Thanksgiving. Seemed it was close to the same when we lived in Erath county.

When I hunted in Kent and Stonewall county lines of both, our rut was the first week of Nov on east side of Kent County on our lease. It was about 7-10 days later on the part of the ranch in western Stonewall County. Ranches were only about 1-1.5 miles apart. But rut was noticeably different.
