When it switched from bow to gun season, do you still use a tree stand with a rifle? Or would you switch to a ground blind? I am hunting public land so always nervous ont eh ground during gun season.

Thoughts?

I have ladder tree stands, tripods, and ground blinds to match specific setups. I always choose the type of stand that best matches the cover in the area, and what gives me the best view. Ground blinds work best in areas where you actually see less when high above ground because of numerous tree limbs. If the extra height allows me to see better, I use a ladder stand if a good tree is available with surrounding cover so that I don't stand out. If no tree is available, I use a tripod.

Also, I always look for a stand site that's back some distance from the area where I expect to see deer. Even if I have look through a little brush to see a deer crossing, food plot, or other area, it's brush that deer must look through to see me. Simply put, my goal is to create a setup where the deer has no idea where the shot came from.

Public land? Tree stand all the way. Just safer, you don't know who all's out there or where they're at, nor they you.
