How many people here are taking some kids out hunting this weekend. We go every year most of the time I look forward to this weekend more than opening weekend. And it's a good time to do a little scouting.

My grandkids aren't old enough yet, but I did get back yesterday from helping one of my lease partners fill feeders so he can take out 3 of his 5 kiddos this weekend. Plus, he had one of them really working out there a few weeks ago. And we have a rancher that wants to see kids taking up hunting. So tomorrow night, even though I'm not there, should be the beginning of hopefully a lot of memories for years to come.

I'll be out there the whole weekend with my 8yr old boy. I can't wait. Already have deer coming into the area I hand corned last weekend. He's never shot a deer so if he's successful, yall will definitely here about it.

What is the definition of youth? Any kid under the age of 16? I looked around and couldn't find much so I thought this place might be the right spot to ask. Thanks

I hope you guys taking kiddos have a good time, and good luck.
This will be our first year in a long time without kids. Going to be quiet at camp.
Youth weekend was always cool for them. It was bigger than a birthday at our place.

This is going to be my sons last year to be able to hunt the youth weekend. I'm hoping the weather will cooperate as the weather man is predicting near 100% rain chance for Saturday. We have made lots of memories in past years.

Under 17 at time of license purchase. They can be 16 when license is purchased, turn 17 during that same hunting season and the youth only license is still valid through that hunting year.

Discovered this because one of my sons has a January birthday. Youth license was valid through that spring turkey season, even though he had turned 17.

the youth license is valid after a person turns 17, but once the person turns 17, they cant hunt the youth season anymore is my understanding of the law

Simply put, you are considered the age for the entire year, that you were when your license was purchased. It was set that way to give more kids the opportunity to take advantage of the special youth only seasons.

The earlier comments are correct. I made it a point to get my daughters license before she turned 17 on that year just for that purpose. She was 17 when the season opened and legally hunted as a youth.

It's probably one of the most overlooked regulations that currently exist. Sad too because a lot of kids miss out as a result by believing they cannot hunt youth weekend if they recently turned 17.

Wish it had come up earlier because I suspect there are a few parents and kids reading and saying to themselves, "I could be in the woods hunting this morning."
