Sit there with the rifle barrel hanging out the window? Or do you raise and sit it up in the window when you see your shooter?

i was watching a hunting video during lunch here and got into a discussion with a fellow friend who we both gave pro's and cons.....

when you are not at the lease the window is normally closed.
maybe wrap camo around your barrel?
by leaving it up there from the moment you get to the lease the morning of the hunt you may scare the deer as its something different.

I have never thought about this. I am up 15 ft in the air and have often wondered rather than trying to be quiet couldnt you just leave it up there?

Stand it in the corner

I forgot to add that I haven't been in a blind in over 20 years!

Lean in corner unless I am hunting on the ready during the rut. In my neck of the woods you normally only have seconds to make a shot on a buck that's chasing, so you better be ready.

leaning it in the corner seems like the right thing to me to. My friend pointed out he has missed out on some good deer due to taking to long to get into position. i figured a barrel hanging out the window would scare them off.

I have had it in the corner, deer came in to feeder grab the rifle bump the wall it was gone.
Now have barrel out window with butt in my lap, not so much movement.

Practice making quick shots. Every time I go to the range I'll try to shot 5-6 rounds like I was in a hunting situation. Throw it up and make a shot. Done it enough now I'm comfortable in any situation hunting should bring from a blind.

In my box blind, mine is in the window sill ready to go, my visibility is restricted area wise, so I don't want to be fooling with getting in position when I need to be GTG.

In my tripods, my rifle is usually laying cross wise on the top rails, same thing. In both cases the safety is on until I commit to the shot though, that only takes a hairs second and no thought.

I'm not in the "lean in a corner" camp. Movement is what scares deer. Not a slight change to the environment such as a barrel sticking out of a blind window. My guns on the sill facing the direction I expect to shoot. This way I minimize movement in the blind and of the gun barrel.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

Leaning in the corner. Never been a fan of quick draw hunting. If I can't get my rifle into position slowly and quietly, I'm never going to be able to get a solid rest and make an accurate shot anyway. Better to wait until I can do it right instead of risk screwing it up

Ditto and my barrel is SS peep Never had a deer pay any attention.

I lean my gun in the corner, prop my feet up in the other corner, lean back in my chair, doze off and dream up a big ole buck and when I wake I grab my gun and shoot. Actually that is my brother I just described, I cannot sleep in the stand but I do lean my trusty 243 in the corner.

My boxes are big enough I sit with the gun across my lap, barrel pointed halfway between my left and center, ready to go out either the window to my left or front immediately, or the right with a turn in the chair or left-handed. Most of the time I have either one or both hands on the rifle. Given the area I hunt and that I'm almost never hunting over a feeder or food plot, I might need to be up and on target very quickly for a deer or a especially a coyote. I'm not going to waste time trying to lean over and pick up a gun or move it from one window to another. As one above mentioned, they'll be by you and you'll have missed your chance.

In my tripods I have the butt across my lap and the forearm resting on the rail, but usually with my hand under it.

Same here. If you hang a length of heavy duty nylon string from the top of stand, with a circle/loop at the bottom, you put the loop around the back of the scope, it will hang in place, hands free. Gun is already out the window, leaving your hands free to glass.

I'm a leaner - right in front of me. Very little movement when it's game time and movements are slow, even pausing if necessary. Never had a problem.

Lean mine in the corner. First thing up when I see a deer is the binos. Next thing is take a few pics with my camera since it is setting to side on the tripod. Then if the bucks is what I am looking for rifle

Let's see, rifle in the corner, binocs in my lap, cold beer in my left hand (sub water for the AM hunt...usually...ok, sometimes...ok, 1 water then beer in the morning), iphone in my right hand, grunt call on the shelf, spotting scope on the floor...something like that.

And before you tell me beer doesn't mix with guns...fear not, I rarely have more than a 12 pack in any one sit...usually...ok, sometimes...
