My granddad bought this rifle in the 50's and put a decent amount of money into it. Had the barrel cut and crowned, a walnut stock made, and put a Weaver k4 in Redfield rings. Only downside is ammo, and although I do reload, I don't like the idea of forming brass. Inspiration struck flipping through a reloading manual. I contacted Ace Dube with MCA Sports and he made a chamber adapter for me. I'm waiting on it, should be here in a day or three. The biggest issue is getting it to feed correctly. To that end, I broke out the tools... We're dealing with a cartridge 14 mm shorter, so clearly it's going to nose dive in the mag. So I scrounged some poly material, like cutting boards are made of, from my buddy who owns a glass shop. Three hours, two skinned knuckles, and a whole lot of sanding the rifle feeds like your aunt at a catfish buffet... Had to snip the follower about 1/4" to make room for the mag block. And the final product- 1/16 under the feed ramp with 40 ish degree angle.

Interesting way to put the old Argentine back into service. Let us know how it works when you get the adaptor.

It used to be offered as a stock item from one of the big parts houses, Numrich maybe. The only issue I've read is extraction can sometimes be iffy, the 7.65 is .47- and the 7.62 is .447 across the rim. My bolt grabs and holds them pretty well, so I hope I'm one of the lucky ones.

Good work!
I own a Mini-Mauser & Savage 10FCM Scout chambered in the 7.62x39. I think it is a pretty good whitetail & hog cartridge.

Those 1891s are good shooters. I love shooting mine. Almost feels like shooting a musket without the black powder smoke and with much better accuracy!

Please keep us posted on the final product as you complete this and the chamber adapter is installed. I'm very interested in doing the same thing to an Argentine I have!

Installed the adapter. It was a bit tricky trying to apply the Black Max, keep it from running, getting it in the camber without smearing the adhesive everywhere, etc. It's in there, thankfully I had the foresight to put some no stickum on the bolt face and lug races. Moral of the story, Black Max is some NASTY stuff.
Gonna have to dry up a bit before I can shoot it.
